Dynomike: Proud To Be Me: (Children’s Book on Anti-Bullying, Self-Esteem, Self Confidence) by Frankie B. Rabbit

Dynomike: Proud To Be Me: (Children’s Book on Anti-Bullying, Self Esteem, Self Confidence) by Frankie B. Rabbit

My granddaughter and I are great fans of the Dynomike books, she because of the lovely stories and bright illustrations, and myself because of the skill Frankie B. Rabbit exhibits in managing to put important life lesson skills within pages of a book which easily captures the attention of young children.

In this Dynomike book, Dynomike is visiting summer camp, something looked forward to, or dreaded by children each year. He arrives confident that he is going to have a wonderful time, playing and making new friends.

However, this is before Mr. Pop Sour announces that it’s time for kickball. Eager to play Dynomike is excited until he strips in a puddle and emerges covered in mud.

Poor Dymnomike, and if that’s not bad enough a nasty bully called Freckly Frock picks on him and taunts him, which isn’t very nice at all!

What a nasty character Freckly Frog is! His actions make Dynomike slink away, ashamed, and feeling afraid and insecure. The horrible bully has really made him sad.

Then, sitting in the cabin Dynomike realises that this scared person isn’t who he is. He has come to camp to enjoy himself and make friends. Empowered by this realisation, he decides that he will not be defeated and confronts Freckly Frog. When he does his words make the bully realise how horrible he has been.

This little story holds an enormous message, one of believing in your strength and self-worth. Children reading this will gain courage and learn through Dynomike how to deal with nasty bullies, and importantly, how to show friendship to them afterwards and ‘be the bigger person.’

Not only is this story one which all children will enjoy and learn from in a gentle way, but also the author has also kindly given his readers a free Dynomike book at the end.

About the Author:
Frankie B. Rabbit is the creator of Dynomike. He was born and raised in New Jersey where he spent most of his time creating rap music. Frankie grew past rap music so he decided to write children’s books as a new hobby. He then started “DYNOMIKE” – a children’s book series with fun rhymes, vibrant illustrations, memorable characters, and stories to help kids learn life lessons while enjoying our fun stories.

We hope you enjoy the books as much as we did to create them!

Dynomike: Proud To Be Me, uses colorful illustrations and rhyme to show kids how to respect themselves, stand up for themselves, and come out on top when dealing with bullies, in a positive way.

I loved the way the reader gets to meet lots of the animals through delightful illustrations and lovely pictures. I thing they are so important in children’s books, and bring the farm wonderfully to life, adding so much to this enchanting tale.

I can’t wait to read more adventures from Tricycles and his friends.

Cowboys, Armageddon, and the Truth: How a Gay Child was Saved from Religion by Scott Terry

51wTA+Kh3eL__AA160_Just by the title I expected this book to be an eye-opener and I certainly wasn’t disappointed!

This is not a story for the faint hearted, it is gut wrenchingly frank and tells of a childhood that no child should have to suffer. Yet, it is written from the author’s own harrowing experiences, and this book tells of his childhood under the tyrannical reign of his stepmother “Fluffy.”

Scott and his older sister Sissy’s father is so besotted with his second wife that he turns a blind eye to the inhumane treatment of his children, and so they are afraid to put a foot wrong and suffered terrible abuse whilst growing up.

Rejected and unloved, he turned to religion for his salvation, and as a Jehovah’s Witness he was continually reminded that Armageddon was just around the corner, not allowed to celebrate many of the festivals his friends did and prayed daily for help and understanding as his sexuality bloomed.

This is a compelling read. The content is very sad, and yet the author tells the story of his childhood calmly, and without bitterness. His sexual preferences and coming to terms with them are graphically described in this no holds barred audiobook and he also offers an insight into the world of the Jehovah’s Witness, which those of us who are not one, do not realise.

About the Author: In 2007, Scott Terry sent an excerpt from his yet-to-be published book, Cowboys, Armageddon, and The Truth, to the San Francisco Chronicle. An hour later, he received a freelance contract and a request for more, leading to many stories for the paper.

In his book, Terry has produced a gritty and poignant autobiography of a young boy escaping an abusive and fanatical childhood. Scott Terry was raised as a devout Jehovah’s Witness, and spent his childhood praying for Armageddon to come and asking God to heal him of his homosexual thoughts. By adulthood, he had escaped the Witness religion and no longer believed in an upcoming apocalypse. Indeed, as a gay man and a real cowboy, he was riding bulls in the rodeo, abandoning all faith in religion.

Cowboys, Armageddon, and The Truth was named one of the Top 20 Must Read Books of 2013 by Advocate Magazine. It was named one of the best LGBT releases of 2012 by Out In Print and Band of Thebes book lists, and was a Bronze Medal winner in the Living Now Book awards, a finalist in the Next Generation Book Awards, and a finalist in the Rainbow Book Awards. Scott’s writing has been featured in the Huffington Post, San Francisco Chronicle, Alternet Magazine, among others.

Hershey Learns a Lesson by D. C. Rush

In this exciting new release by D. C. Rush the bully learns a lesson.

About the book: Hershey, the notorious cat from the Robby’s Quest storybook series, is still mean-spirited and a bully. Hershey is big, strong and very fast, yet uses all his skills for the wrong reasons; to prey upon the smaller and weaker animals around his yard.

Nomi, the other cat living in the same house, is older and much smaller. Nomi has many friends around the neighborhood. One day, when Nomi’s new friend Tyson comes over for a visit, Hershey decides to attack the smaller cats, however things do not work out as he planned, and Hershey finds himself in a situation that may change him forever.

Enjoy Hershey Learns a Lesson, a story about helping each other to develop new and lasting friendships.

Hershey is a big, handsome cat, but unfortunately, his beauty is only skin-deep. Inside he is a bully, he loves nothing more than to frighten other animals, and this includes Nomi, an older but very pretty tan coloured cat who lives in the same house.

If you are fans of the Robby’s Quest series of children’s books, you will already have met Hershey, as the villain, a couple of times before, when he terrorises the birds. In this books he’s still up to no good, he even steals poor Nomi’s food, but what can she do, after all, he’s much bigger than her.

It seems as if there is no way to stop Hershey’s reign of terror. However, one-day, Nomi’s friend Tyson comes to play with her. Horrible Hershey spies them, and when he creeps up and scares Tyson, the events which follow, turn the tables on Hershey and change his life forever.

Suddenly, Hershey is scared and needs help. For the first time, he’s no longer in a position to be bully. However, luckily there are nice kind cats, and when Nomi and Tyson discover his problem, they help him and teach him a valuable lesson at the same time.

The author has combined a wonderful story with a clear message, a great book which is beautifully illustrated by Daniela Fongia.

Review by susan Keefe:

The Hare and the Tortoise is a refreshing new look at the classic Aesop fable The Tortoise and the Hare.

Bullying is an immortal problem, and  it is one which manifests itself in various ways. The author has written a lovely story in which the victim becomes the victor in the end and valuable lessons are learnt on both sides.

There is, however, much more to this book. The introduction is for parents, teachers and child carers and covers the affects that bullying can have. Next comes the story, and then the author has added chapters describing different types if bullies and suggests action plans for the victims which will help them, and hopefully give them the confidence to overcome the bullies.

A really useful book, which opens your eyes to the fact that bullies are everywhere, at school, in the workplace and even on the internet. They must be stopped and this book goes a long way to offering advice on how to do this.
