Fearne Fairy and the Dandelion Clocks by Sarah Hill

This delightful Fearne Fairy adventure takes place on a beautiful March morning. With the daffodils swaying in the breeze, and bird song filling the air as young chaffinches practice their singing.

On such as super day, in her moss covered tree trunk home deep in the middle of Whimsy Wood, Fearne Fairy is in the mood for spring cleaning, however, it isn’t long before her tummy reminds her she hasn’t had her breakfast.

We all know that fairies are magical, and can do amazing things, but like ordinary people there are things they have problems with, and Fearne really does have trouble with her landings, and unfortunately on this day she crashes at the bottom of the stairs and hurts her head.

No worries, she thinks, I have just the remedy hidden in my conker cupboard, her special, sore-head-fixing dandelion drink. However, when she goes to the cupboard she discovers that there is no drink left!

What can she do! Well she must have a good think, and what better to help her than a crumpet or four? Just as she finds the solution, she hears a rumpus outside and discovers Bertie and Beatrice, the bunny twins fighting over a dandelion clock! Of course, like most fighting, it ends in tears and also poor Beatrice bumps her head. The situation is urgent, now there are two sore heads and no sore-head-fixing dandelion drink.

But will the bunny twins remember where they got the clock from, because, surely there will be dandelion leaves there, and hopefully there will there be enough for Fearne Fairy to make some of her magical drink.

It is time for a lesson Fearne decides, and so she tells the twins, after their fight about the importance of sharing, and about her family’s motto of ‘share and share a-like.’

But as to the spring cleaning, well…

This is a truly enchanting fairy tale, magical and yet with a little lesson about the importance of sharing woven in. I read it to my little granddaughter and she was captivated, loving both the story and the wonderful illustrations. I look forward to sharing more Fearne Fairy tales with her as we explore this exciting series together.

FEARNE FAIRY AND THE LANDING LESSON by Sarah Hill

In this delightful children’s book we join Fearne Fairy as she is wakened by the dawn chorus in Whimsy Wood on a marvellous May morning.

Fearne is a lovely kind fairy, but she has a terrible voice, so when she asks to join in the chorus the woodland birds don’t want to hurt her feelings, after all why make someone unhappy if it isn’t necessary? Instead, they divert her thoughts by asking how her best friend Mustard the Magpie Moth Caterpillar is.

Racing down stairs she finds Mustard happily sleeping soundly in his little leaf basket by the stove. Fearne loves her friend so much that she decides to make him a special breakfast, and sets off for the Woodland Store. However, although like other fairies Fearne can fly, her landings are not so good, and on her return she crashes. Startled awake, Mustard suggests that she needs to get some help perfecting her landings, and she agrees.

Thus begins a magical adventure, as we join Fearne and Mustard in their search for Bristle Bumblebee and Dewberry Dragonfly, flying experts who Mustard thinks will be able to help her.

After breakfast, with picnic packed, they set off on their quest to find Bristle and Dewberry.

The woods are wonderful, and most of the creatures are having fun, and enjoying the lovely May weather, but then they come across Bromley the Badger, and his friend, who is a very sad Hedgehog called Humbug.

However, when Fearne discovers the cause of Humbugs unhappiness she realises that it is within her powers to make him happy again, and so she waves her magic wand, and says a special spell, making things right.

Pleased to see his friend happy again, Bromley tells them that Bristle and Dewberry have opened a Flying School down by the purple orchid patch, to help the May bugs and stag beetles who are having problems learning to fly. So off Fearne and Mustard go in search of Bristle and Dewberry’s Flying School.

But will they find it?

And, if they do, will Bristle and Dewberry be able to help Fearne improve her landing, after all, she isn’t a May bug or stag beetle?

Well you will have to read the story to find out the answers to these questions, but the only thing I can say is that practice really does make perfect…

The wonderful way this magical children’s story is told, and the way its beautiful illustrations compliment the story makes this not just a book, but a prized possession, the type of book which will be handed down from child to child, through generation.

I would liken it to the famous The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame, and think it definitely deserves a place on every child’s bookshelf.

What I thought:

This enchanting story begins on Petunia Pottersfield’s 11th Birthday. Petunia is a fairy who lives in Furrow Grove. She has a mass of unruly hair, and she’s writing in her diary who she calls Bob. Why Bob, why not? After all everything deserves a name, doesn’t it? Bob is very special to her because he is the place where she confides all her hopes and fears.

You see, Petunia is lonely, she doesn’t have many friends because she is very clumsy, and she doesn’t like school either. She has a kind heart, it’s just that things just don’t turn out as she intends them too…

Then things look up, she has a new friend Alisia, and the girls have great fun together, until they notice that something has gone terribly wrong with the inhabitants of Furrow Grove, they have changed…

At first, the girls manage to hide, but then disaster strikes and Alisia is caught.

Petunia is desperate, and eventually finds help, but will it be in time to save Alisia and the fairies of Furrow Grove?

Find out in this charming and exciting children’s adventure, from the author of The Paladins of Naretia.

About the MP3 and Book: “Rotten Rena, the wicked witch of the Enchanted Forest, is back and this time she is flying high in her very own airship and causing mayhem. Things go from bad to worse when Rena’s troll workforce, the Neerdowells, arrive and there seems little hope of saving the forest from the prospect of Air Rena. That is until Bindweed Belle and a Treebob find the strangest of all magical characters yet to help save the day.”

This is another story in the popular Treebobs series and features the popular characters of Bindweed Belle and of course the wicked witch Rotten Rena. Of course since Rotten Rena isn’t the cleverest of witches it all goes wrong with hilarious results! Of course its up to the Treebobs to rescue her.

Poor Rotten Rena is not very good at magic, however, when she finds an old book she decides one of the potions will be the perfect way for her to make her fortune.

Potion made, she sets up a stall in the forest, unfortunately, the forest dwellers are frightened of her, and the only person to appear is her cousin, Badlot Barbara, who is also a wicked witch.

Taunted, Rotten Rena takes her own potion, only to discover it was not what she thought it was…

Luckily, good fairy Bindweed Bell has seen it all, and knows Badlot Barbara will be far worse than Rotten Rena for the forest dwellers, so the Treebobs and fairies send out a search party.

The Treebobs and the Giant Mole by Declan Harney

Magic and mayhem in the Enchanted Forest.

GIANT MOLE

About the book:

Another fun filled Treebob story straight from the magical forest.

When Rotten Rena a truly wicked witch makes an enemy of Mole Hill Marge she does so at her peril as Marge is famous for being a very stubborn mole indeed. However not even Rotten Rena dares to imagine the lengths that Marge will go to in order to get her own back but Rena soon finds out when Mole Hill Marge becomes Mountain Marge and its down to the Treebobs to save the day.

One day, the peace of the Enchanted Forest is disturbed by Rotten Rena and Mole Hill Marge arguing, Marge is a large mole, and she’s sitting on top of her hill wearing sunglasses, she loves digging and insists she will dig whenever and wherever she likes, despite threats from Rotten Rena.

Later that day, whilst digging, a happy singing Marge comes across the wicked witch Badlot Barbara’s cottage. Badlot Barbara is not friends with her cousin Rotten Rena, today and so she agrees to help Marge take revenge on Rotten Rena, and gives her a magic potion.

The next day the ground trembles as a gigantic Marge tunnels through the earth. As she causes havoc, it is apparent that something has to be done to stop her, but what?

I love listening to audio books and, even as an adult, I find the adventures of the Treebobs relaxing and entertaining. The magic and characters are delightful and the story is brought alive by the wonderful voices of Lindsay Abbott.

How the Treebobs came to be, a Video Story by Declan Harney

The story of how the Treebobs began is a lovely one and a great introduction to this wonderful series of children’s books about the magical Treebobs.

You can hear it on the  Tales4All website in its ‘Storytime Corner’ http://www.tales4all.co.uk/storytimecorner/ or by clicking the link below.

Through the wonderful voices of the narrator, we discover all about how the Treebobs came to be. We learn that they were elves, who originally lived in a beautiful valley, which had everything they needed, and they were very happy. However, one day a terrible thing happens and before long, they are forced to find another home.

After a long journey, they arrive at a valley with a dense magical forest in it, could this be their new home?

Well, many creatures live in this forest including wicked witches and lovely fairies, as the elves discover. However, luckily, their journey has a happy ending, but what that is, you will just have to listen to find out.

This video takes me back to special times reading stories with my children. I find myself just wanting to turn back the clock, sit them on my knees, cuddle them and say, “Now, if you’re ready, then the story will begin.”
