Extinction: Dawn of the Apocalypse by Stephen Thompson

When the chief scientific editor of a television network sees dramatic changes in the world, he’s worried enough to do something about it.

But even with his foresight, will all the planning and preparations be enough?

With its great storyline, believable characters and plenty of detail this is a short story I would thoroughly recommend.

The Adventures of the Lone Jack Kid by Joe Corso

Action packed Western

The Adventures of the Lone Jack Kid

With the Civil War raging around and death a normal occurrence, knowing whom you can trust can mean the difference between life and death. When a stranger stands beside Charles Longstreet in Lone Jack, Missouri during a gunfight, neither man could possibly realise how the events that day will shape both their futures.

The story which follows, is a brilliant Wild West adventure, with a strong storyline, which quickly immerses the reader into what life was like at that time. A time when cowboys and Indians ruled the Wild West, gunslingers and sheriffs are in every town, love is to be taken when it can, lawlessness is at a peak and life is cheap.

Even if you are not a Wild West fan already, you will be when you’ve you read this book, which contains many of the names of legend along with a new one the Lone Jack Kid.

I Wish I Could Say I Was Sorry by Susie Kelly

Open, honest, and compelling reading.

I Wish I Could Say I Was Sorry...

Books are escapism, and Susie Kelly’s books about her adventures and life in France have kept me entertained over the years.

I knew this book was going to be different, but nothing prepared me for its content.

When you see an author’s picture, and have followed her escapades, somehow you feel in a way, you know her. This book dispels that illusion. The title is easily understandable, everyone regrets not having the chance to say things, or leaving it too late…

What a story! Written in Susie’s extremely honest way, but unlike her other books, in this one, we learn of her childhood in England and Kenya, her life choices and the decisions she has had to make.

An open, heart-rending insight into her life, which I found a compelling read.

House of Justice by Vincent Bivona

A good short horror story.

The title caught my eye at first, but as I started reading, the storyline took over making this an un-put-downable read very cleverly written.

If you want a gruesome short story then, in my opinion, this is a good choice.

Kaleidoscope Summer: Samantha’s Story (Book One of the Serenity Cove Series) by Rita Garcia

Kaleidoscope Summer

A captivating story.

Serenity Cove is a small town where everyone knows each other, the same families have lived there for generations and skeletons are settled nicely into cupboards.

Therefore, when Samantha and her hearing dog Goldie arrive spectacularly in town, she soon becomes the centre of attention, especially when people discover her identity.

Samantha, who became deaf at 15 years of age, is a beautiful, capable, independent woman and soon romance is in the air as she captures the heart of police chief Logan Delatorre. She makes some good friends, especially Logan’s sister Mandy, however, in towns like this, there are always unusual characters and mischief-makers.

We follow her on her rollercoaster journey of discovery, sharing her emotions as she discovers her roots and, with her faith in God, comes to terms with her discoveries.

Anybody who has lived in a small village or community can immediately emphasise with Serenity Cove, its very real characters and the life this book portrays.

A lovely story, which captivated me from page one and kept me guessing throughout with its twists and turns.

How I Beat Self Sabotage And How You Can Too by Erica Snyder

 Very inspirational and self-motivating.

This book’s title caught my attention, I’d never really thought of my failure to carry through with things in the terms of self sabotage, but now I can see it is.

Written from firsthand experience, this author has, in the past overcome a myriad of problems.

In her frank way Erica opens up enabling us to understand how her problems arose in the first place, she then gives us the opportunity to discover the path she took to overcoming the hurdles, which we all use to self sabotage.

Within this very readable book are a series of strategies she has successfully used, explained in a way, which is easy to understand and put into practice anywhere.

I for one will be applying some of them in the future; after all I have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

The Starlight Club III by Joe Corso

Fantastic mixture of action and politics.

The Starlight Club III

As a daughter, when your father allows you a glimpse into his past, telling stories which help you understand the man he has become it’s an honour. So, when Bobby Valentine visits his daughter Lynn she cannot resist asking for just one more tale about his life at The Starlight Club. How can a father refuse?

Set in the early sixties with John Kennedy as President and Bobby Kennedy as his Attorney General.

Getting to President is no easy thing, strings have to be pulled, deals made, the right introductions and for all this, there is a price to pay. Promises made by others are not binding, some people believe, and Bobby Kennedy calls on Agent Lonegan to recruit mercenaries who become rogue “Federal Agents.”

When the time honoured rules and promises are broken the Mafia are not happy and retaliation is the name of the game. Who did kill John Kennedy?

Along with new characters, all our favourites are still here from the rest of this brilliant series of stories, and their lives evolve in it.

With an exciting story line, which encompasses murder, mystery, boxing, politics and much more, Joe Corso has written yet another classic.

Let’s hope we see a Starlight Club IV soon.

Sell the Pig by Tottie Limejuice

I loved this book!

Sell the Pig

As soon as I started reading the foreword, I knew I was going to love this book.

Many books have been written about people’s new lives in France, but not so many about the upheaval and organisation the move takes, without the added complication of a problematic brother and a very elderly mother.

Tottie narrates the tale brilliantly with her forthright descriptions – no holds barred of her family, other people, and the events, which made them decide to move to France. Then, once the decision is made, she takes you with her as she overcomes the obstacles necessary to make it happen.

You can laugh, cry and despair with her throughout the pages of this fantastic book as she organises everything and one, with the support of a good friend and of course her beloved Border Collie Meic.

Mom! What’s That? by Atlas Jordan

 Engaging and educational.

The title is a phrase a mother hears so many times when their children are young, but it’s heart-warming because it shows an active mind.

In this brightly illustrated book Sadie and her Mom go to the park, and of course Sadie has plenty of questions about the world around them.

This is a lovely story, which is long enough to capture a child’s attention and gives plenty of opportunities for the reader and child to interact, discover and learn new things.

An engaging story, by a very talented author.
