About the book: If you could ask a king for a special wish, what would it be? First-time author Deborah Belica captures your child’s interest by proposing the silliest of events – climbing up a bee, walking down a toad, smelling a tower. Your child will delight in the author’s self correction with a more logical rhyming word. Join Isabella on this whimsical quest for her special wish, complete with fanciful and amusing illustrations. What she asks of the king will charm parents and children alike.
Review by Lorraine Carey
Isabella’s Special Wish is a wonderful book full of rhyme, patterns and brightly colored illustrations as a young girl performs the silliest acts. Imagine stopping to smell a tower! Young children will delight as they can easily learn to read this one from memory with its repeat pattern. I love the humor in each page as young readers delight in this style of writing.
As an educator I can just hear the children reading along with the teacher as a read to also. This book presents itself with so many teaching opportunities. As a children’s reading specialist It should be a staple in every early primary classroom. Make sure to treat your favorite young lady to this delightful book.
