The Retribution by Shankar Kashyap

A thrilling psychological thriller.

Everyone has seen them, the drug addicts, gays, and drunkards, the dregs of society willing to do anything for their next fix, however, the attractions of these vices are rampant in all tiers of society, and every ‘job’ has its fair share of culprits, it’s just that some people manage to hide under a polished veneer of respectability, whilst others do so with only a small degree of success.

In this exciting psychological thriller a family from Kenya find themselves fleeing to Leicester in the UK. The differences between the two countries are so vast that it takes the main character a boy called Dev a long time to settle, however Dev’s father is determined to make the move to the UK a success, and so the unhappy Dev resorts to telling the pages of his little red book how he feels, a childhood habit which follows him through life.

As the years go by the father’s dream is realised as he establishes a temple, and he is proud of the prominent part his boys play in the day to day life there.

Dev is no longer the withdrawn boy of his youth, he has matured into a charismatic, dynamic man, a priest in the temple, loved by all. He works tirelessly for the rights of those around him, and it is this compassion and strength of character which makes him adored by the both the Asian, and local white community, people and leaders alike.

However Dev is hiding a dark secret from everyone, despite all the trappings of a successful man, a beautiful wife, new cars, designer clothes, he knows in his heart that he cannot deny the man he really is, the man who has grown from that young boy who left Mombasa Island all those years ago…

As the author takes us, through Dev’s experiences, deeper and deeper into the gay and drugs scenes in the seedier side of Leicester, we discover the other world which lives and loves in the shadows, the mafia who supply them, and how even the police officers working their cases have their own demons to face.

I found that this exciting, traumatic, and sometimes thought provoking story had me turning the pages eagerly, desperate to discover what happens next. Full of action from page one, I think that other readers who love a good psychological, murder mystery will absolutely love this engrossing story, after all, admit it, aren’t you just itching to know what Dev wrote in the pages of that little red book?

About the Book:

A psychological thriller of Dev Sharma, a good man, a ‘flamboyant’ priest with high profile and owner of a reputable Care Home, is brutally murdered. His murder brings the detective Sean O’Connor, a police inspector transferred from Ulster Constabulary, more bad than good, tries to make sense of the case whilst hiding his own double life as a serial womanizer and drug abuser. The question is whether the murder is of someone pious and holy and a pillar of society. Or is it a catharsis of a society gone bad? The answer is not so simple when the man accused of killing him turns out to be one of the dregs of society. The complexity lies in his separation of two lives but his own psychological reasoning, that he, as formed by his gods is required to practice a darker secret life of bisexuality, rent boys, and extreme behavior. The priest is seen battling with his choices and fears of disrepute. Yet at the same time attempting to justify his behavior to himself as unchangeable, a fall out of modern living. Sheena Achar is a sophisticated wife of the Priest, deep and unfathomable. She portrays the face of a devoted wife and a lover to the society. Does she have a different agenda? As the story unfolds, O’Connor is faced with mounting evidence against a homophobic group, a drug mafia, jealous boyfriend, a jealous wife, a drug addict and a rent boy. But only one of them is the real killer.

The Pursuit of Happiness by Alan Trustman

An action packed crime thriller.

It wasn’t until the author of this exciting new crime thriller, Alan Trustman, retired from being a partner in a successful law firm, that he began a new career as a film writer. He wrote the screen plays for the films, Bullitt, The Thomas Crown Affair, They Call Me Mr. Tibbs, The Next Man, and Le Mans.

The main character in this story is a tough guy from Brooklyn, a ruthless killer, dangerous, deadly, and yet still a man, and, as we discover not totally impervious to womanly wiles. However, in essence, this story is an action packed crime thriller from the very first page.

Imagine, if you can, dipping into the ultra-spy world Ian Fleming’s, James Bond, then add the mystery and attention to details of Clive Cussler’s action adventures, and you will just begin to have some idea of how absolutely enthralling this story is. If you love books in which you get so absorbed that you find yourself compulsively turning each page craving to know what happens next, with nail biting twists and turns, then you will love The Pursuit of Happiness.

The author’s incredible attention throughout the plot to the details regarding the history, geography, locations, characters, and weaponry used, all add immeasurably to the readers’ enjoyment of this story.

From the moment I picked up this book I enjoyed every page, and I for one, hope that there is a sequel.

About the Book: A bad boy from Boston seeks fulfillment.

Incognito by Khaled Talib

A fantastic Spy Thriller.

Khaled Talib is set to take the literary world by storm with this, his latest spy thriller, Incognito.

When Pope Gregoire XVII disappears, and no one claims to have any idea where he could be, speculation as to his whereabouts, safety, and fate escalate, and soon the frantic search to find him spreads from Italy to further afield.

As the tension mounts, The League of Invisible Knights, send Ayden Tanner, an ‘officially dead’ former member of the British SAS, and his team, to find him. However as soon as Ayden arrives in Geneva for his meeting with the Papacy’s Press Secretary Rafael Rabolini, the problems begin…

This is a truly gripping read with a nail biting good vs. evil plot. Khalid Talib in his own vividly descriptive way, takes his readers on a worldwide adventure as Ayden and his team find themselves pitting their wit against a merciless enemy with a devastating plan…

Well written, with amazing characters and an action packed plot, this story will keep its reader on the edge of their seats until the very last page.

I was given a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

About the Author: Khaled is a former journalist with local and international exposure. His articles have been published and syndicated to newspapers worldwide, and his short stories have appeared in literary journals and magazines. The author is a member of the UK Crime Writers Association and the International Thriller Writers.

About the Book: Pope Gregoire XVII was last seen waving to the crowd at Saint Peter’s square from the famous Apostolic Palace window. Despite several layers of tight security, neither the Gendarmerie nor The Entity (the Vatican’s secret service) or the Swiss Guards claim to know anything about his sudden mysterious disappearance.

As the world mourns for the pope, a frantic search begins in Italy and beyond its borders amid speculation that the Holy See may know more than they are telling.

Ayden Tanner, a former British SAS commando officer — who is officially dead — is dispatched with two other crew members to find the Supreme Pontiff by The League of Invisible Knights, a covert division of Anonymous that aims to bring about the triumph of good over evil.

A secret arrangement is made for Ayden to meet Rafael Rabolini, the Papacy’s press secretary, in Geneva, who might be able to tell him more. But trouble unexpectedly starts from the moment Ayden arrives in the city that winter day…

The story unfolds to reveal an insidious plot by Willem Van Der Haas, a ruthless Dutch senator who has aligned himself with a world power bent on its own global ambitions.

In a gasping chase that races from the snowy mountains of Switzerland to the secret passages under Saint Peter’s Basilica to the hilly terrains of Istanbul to the harsh desert air of Egypt, Ayden and his crew are forced to match wits with lethal assassins as they struggle on a desperate quest to prevent a terrifying tomorrow.

The Jerusalem Inception by Avraham Azrieli

51edhadb6gl-_ac_us160_

The book begins by setting the scene, it is midnight 1944, and Tanya, a young Jewish girl is in a car with her lover, and saviour, General Klaus Koenig. Klaus Koenig is meeting with his old school friend, and banker Armande Hoffgeitz for the last time, Germany is losing the war and the last of the jewels taken from the victims at the concentration camps must be hidden away safely.

But waiting to ambush the car are Elie and Abraham, renegade Jews, intent in wreaking revenge on the Germans for the monstrosities they are committing.

When Elie and Abraham find Tanya, they allow her to stay with them. Soon she and Abraham fall in love. However their happiness is brief, when Elie returns from a raid alone…

Now we jump forward 21 years, and discover that Abraham did not die, but is instead the very important leader of the Neturay Karta, a fiercely anti-Zionist Orthodox sect in Jerusalem.

Tanya is now a respected Mossad secret agent, but her feelings have never died for the handsome young man she thought she’s lost all those years ago.

Therefore, when she discovers he is alive, she has to meet him. However, he is married now, and has a 17 year old son, Jerusalem, or Lemmy, who is a Talmudic scholar. What’s more Abraham is using his important religious standing for another purpose, doing what he feels he must, in a desperate attempt to prevent a second Holocaust.

The repercussions for Abraham’s family are far reaching, and young Lemmy’s life changes in ways he could never have imagined, causing him to question his Talmudic lessons, and things he always believed were true.

Set in a turbulent, modern Jerusalem, this eye-opener of a book tells the story of three people, all survivors of WWII, and how their survival shaped their lives, and made them determined, in their own different ways, to ensure the horrors inflicted on the Jews would never be repeated again.

This book gives an amazing insight into what it was like to live in Jerusalem during those turbulent times, the differences between the Zionists and anti-Zionists, and a glimpse into the government workings, secrets, and agents behind the scenes. Also, as a non-Jewish reader, I enjoyed learning about the Jewish beliefs, and traditions, and finding out about the motivation and leadership behind such an extreme group as the Neturay Karta.

Woven within its pages are secrets and lies, loves lost and hidden, resentment and betrayal.

This amazing story develops in ways in which the reader would never have imagined, and I thoroughly recommend it to mystery and suspense thriller fans.

About the Author:

51gcvkercll-_ux250_Avraham Azrieli’s new novel, Deborah Rising (Harper Collins, 2016), portrays the dramatic (and unlikely) rise of the first woman to lead a nation in recorded human history. A graduate of Columbia Law School in New York City, Azrieli tried many complex court cases before his first novel, The Masada Complex (a political thriller) was published in 2010. A full-time author since then, his other books include the Israeli spy novels The Jerusalem Inception and The Jerusalem Assassin, as well as Christmas for Joshua (a family drama dealing with interfaith conflicts), The Mormon Candidate (a political thriller), Thump (a courtroom drama featuring sexual harassment and racism) and The Bootstrap Ultimatum (a mystery involving the commercialization of Memorial Day). He also authored Your Lawyer on a Short Leash (a guide to dealing with lawyers) and One Step Ahead – A Mother of Seven Escaping Hitler’s Claws (a WWII biography, which inspired the musical By Wheel and by Wing). Azrieli grew up in Israel, where he received extensive Talmudic education, served as an intelligence officer and, after attending law school, clerked for the Israeli Supreme Court in Jerusalem. Residing primarily in the United States since 1990, he currently lives near Washington DC with his wife and children. Like Ben Teller, the protagonist in The Mormon Candidate, Azrieli often rides his motorcycle in the mountainous forests of western Maryland. To learn more, visit www.AzrieliBooks.com

About the Book: On the eve of the Six Day War, in the divided city of Jerusalem, a young rabbinical scholar falls in love with a beautiful Mossad agent twice his age, breaks off the shackles of religious observance, and volunteers for a dangerous mission that will determine the outcome of the greatest Mideast war. “The Jerusalem Inception is a unique story that will touch your heart.” Frederick Ramsay, Author of Reapers and the Ike Schwartz Mysteries. “The 1967 war continues to dominate the Middle East. If you want to know what really happened (and at the same time fall in love with a striking cast of unforgettable characters) then The Jerusalem Inception is for you. In the best tradition of Eye of the Needle and The Bourne Identity, this one is a hit!” —Stephen J. Wall, author of The Morning After and On the Fly.

Cries of the Eagle By Michael E. Nathanson

5158pontrsl-_ac_us160_

As a non-Muslim I found this a fascinating story, as it opens your eyes not only to a different religion, but also its beliefs and teachings, however this story is so much more, it is a powerful story of murder, betrayal, secrets and lies, which when uncovered expose horrendous truths…

Ali and Hajid, are a devout Muslim couple who left their homeland of Iran in the 1980’s to start a better life in America. They settled in Dearborn, Michigan, and soon after had a son Ibrahim. They worked hard at bringing him up in the faith, and live a good life in their Muslim community. As parents they were happy to watch him stand on his own two feet, and accept that he is naturally growing away from them as he moves to Texas as part of his Qu’ran studies. However, the friends and mentors Ibrahim chooses once there lead him down a dark path, one which shapes his destiny forever.

Through the ages it has become accepted that most religions have a fanatical side, radical groups with one aim only, to ensure that in time, their religion is the only one which survives. With the threat of terrorism and fear of racism so very much a part of our modern world, the author has skillfully weaved his magic to write this story. Although fictional, it is easy to see it being true, indeed as I write this there are horrors being committed in the name of religion every day.

Mostly we base our views on ‘hearsay’ or newspaper headlines, tarring everyone with the same brush, and in our fear persecuting the innocent. Fascinatingly, this book reveals how the lives of an ordinary family, devoutly following their Muslim faith, can become inextricably entwined with the fanatical counter elements of the religion they follow, without their knowledge.

However, this story is not just about Muslim beliefs, it is an intriguing, action packed thriller. As the storyline unfolds we follow the investigations of Special Agent Gerry Bolton and Agent Jan Hanson of the FBI, and soon discover that nothing is as it seems…

In my opinion this is an exceptional book, and a real eye-opener. Not only is it an absorbing story but it has given me a real insight into a world I knew nothing about. If I could give it 6 stars, I would!

About the author:

New York born and California raised, Michael E. Nathanson comes from a family of writers (his father is well known for his book THE DIRTY DOZEN), and has held a lifelong dream of one day weaving a good story that also points to hope and light in a darkened world.

Prior to committing to being a writer, Michael has served as National Sales Manager for a medical products company in the healthcare industry, as Regional Sales Manager for a consumer product manufacturing company catering to mass retail markets, as VP of Sales for another consumer product manufacturing company catering to mass retail markets, and spent 15 years as CEO and partner in a privately held promotional marketing company.

During a business trip in the 1980s he traveled to an Arab Muslim country and became fascinated with Islamic religious culture, worldview and the repressive social system there. After 2001 his interest increased, in not only the politics of Islam, but also terrorists, terrorism and its mindset.

Michael believes ‘there is a segment of the Muslim population that is radicalized and very dangerous to the world, yet we cannot forget that it is just a segment of a very large religious population. That population still needs to be represented by positive heroes. I want the reader of my book to meet some rich characters and also hear a clear gospel message of hope and love that our world so desperately needs today.’

“Cries of the Eagle” is Michael E. Nathanson’s first novel. He lives in Dallas, Texas with his wife, Jan, and they joyfully serve together in the marriage ministry at their church – Marriage Counseling and Reconciliation Counseling. They have three grown children and are expecting their first grandchild in 2017.

About the book:

A devastating explosion leaves a wake of death and destruction in a suburban Dallas high school. Senior Agent Gerry Bolton and Special Agent Jan Hanson of the Dallas FBI take on the case of the apparent bombing, with little to go on. No manifesto has been revealed to declare the perpetrator’s identity or rationale, although terrorism is suspected. A later grotesque crime adds a further burden of urgency to the FBI’s efforts. Aziz Malawi, a bright young Muslim engineer, is puzzled by a friend and coworker’s failure to return to work from his vacation. He decides to check on him at his apartment. What he discovers sends him to the police, where he is immediately viewed as highly suspicious, is interrogated, and subsequently bumped up to the FBI for further scrutiny. It becomes clear to the FBI that Aziz is not a person of interest in the bombing crime, but quite the opposite – a devout American patriot, and a Muslim, who detests terrorism and terrorists. He entreats the FBI to allow him to become an active part of their investigation, which stretches from Dallas, Texas to Dearborn Michigan.Aziz joins the hunt for the loose thread that will ultimately unravel the fabric of a crime with a much deeper meaning and far-reaching impact than ever imagined. His sleuthing draws him into a world of danger that challenges his every resource and that of his FBI handlers who are sworn to protect him. As pieces of the greater puzzle begin to fit together, a grieving father, deeply struck by the tragedy of the crime surrounding his son’s death receives new hope, through an extraordinary gift brought to him by an unexpected benefactor. He must first confront himself, and stare down the evil that took his son and threatened to destroy his family in the process. After a business career, Michael Nathanson decided to undertake writing his first novel, “Cries of the Eagle,” fulfilling a life-long ambition. Coming from a family of writers, Nathanson dreamed of one day telling a story himself, one that could possibly also point to light and hope in the process. He lives in Texas with his wife, Jan, and they serve together in the marriage ministry at their church.

‘Til The End: A Novel of Murder, Addiction, and Lies by Joseph Patrick 33

41ZhwlRnpQL._AC_US174_

Some great friendships are forged in our youth especially in team sports. The stories of four friends are told in this book which is set in Detroit, between 1988 and 1993.

Ryan, Tyler, Jacob and Avery are high school football stars, young men with a future, looking forward to fame, fortune, money and success. High spirited and with the world at their feet, they have their dreams of fame and fortune, and the world in their pockets, so to speak.

Suddenly however all this alters when something happened one night, a horrific event which changes everything. They must protect each other, and so they make a pact, their secret can never be revealed…

When something like this occurs, it can’t help but change the people involved, life will never be the same, but it must go on and everyone must deal with it in their own unique way.

As they struggle to keep the secret, each day wondering if it will surface, the boys search for escapism in the usual ways, and alienate the ones they love. Involvement in the worlds of drugs and drink, the untimely death of two of them, and abuse tear them apart. This is a very interesting read.

Perhaps it should be used as an example, or reminder that life is not a video game, you can’t reset the screen or reload the game, once something is done, it cannot be undone – you must live with the consequences for life, the buck stops with you!

About the Author:

Joseph Patrick33 is a Michigan author who grew up in Shelby Township. He has 11 years of higher education earning degrees at the bachelors, masters and doctorate level. The creative aspects of ‘Til The End were sparked by personal interests of subject matter that not only intrigues, but seems to find its way into the vast majority of our lives. In addition to the struggles of real life, Joseph Patrick33 wanted to capture the essence of unpredictable fate. Although most of the characters are jaded, he believes you will find little pieces of them within us all. No matter how your mind perceives this book, always know that even within fiction there can be true meaning. A special thanks to Dennis Lowery. His professionalism and input were instrumental in making this book true to form. Visit the Joseph Patrick33 website at http://www.tiltheend.net

About the Book:  Ryan, Tyler, Avery and Jacob are high school football stars. Everyone looks up to them. They’re living the life that young boys and men dream of and are right at the point of having it all: a state championship, college paid for, a chance for big money and even more glory in the NFL. It’s all there in front of them; the future they and everyone expects. Then something happens that could bring it all crashing down. And they can’t tell the truth because it’s even worse than having to keep the secret for the rest of their lives. They make a pact to cover it up and never tell. Hiding the truth fuels their escalating addictions and pushes them in different directions as they try to erase the past, deal with the present and hope for the future. But at some point, in some way, there’s alway a price paid for lies told.

She Bites by Roger Arsht and Caitlin Hawker

9781480822214_p0_v1_s192x300

A fast paced psychological murder, mystery.

Being an animal lover I immediately warmed to the lead character in this fast paced psychological murder mystery, what a woman! However I have to say at the beginning that this is no soppy animal story, it enters the horrific dog fighting world and some of the scenes and stories in it are very graphically written.

Robyn is a veterinarian, passionate about animals and angered and appalled at the poor dogs who are bought in to her, maimed and worse, sometimes by the perpetrators of the crime. Vile characters with no compassion, or thought for life, either human or animal. However the face she puts on at the surgery is a mask. Behind it lies another Robyn a woman whose past has made her the way she is, angry, deadly, passionate and vengeful.

Jack Williams is a police detective who has been put on leave following a horrific case. He has no memory of the details, the event was so traumatic that for his sanity his brain has blocking it out.

Then there is Lizzie, the Corgi, Jacks therapy dog who he takes to Robyn’s surgery for treatment.

As the friendship between Jack and Robyn develops he soon realises that she has a hidden side, one which she can’t always control – sometimes it comes to the surface, and when it does…

The characters both major and minor are very well written. From the colourful and haughty Ms. Smyth-Anders, to poor Doctor Oliver, a therapist with his own problems. As the story evolves we witness the day to day life at the veterinary surgery and police station, and behind the scenes in the shady world of dog fighting.

This book is like no other I have read, in some parts fascinating in a horrific way, yet there is also compassion and love. The plot is very cleverly written by its two talented authors and contains some very clever twists. Definitely for the reader who wants something different and very fast paced.

Authors Biographies:

she bites

Roger Arsht – Roger Arsht is a mild-mannered high school English teacher by day, but dons his writerly cloak after class and pens the darker side of life. His noir thrillers ask some hard questions about corruption and violence in the world, and what to do about it (which sometimes involves evil veterinarians gone vigilante.)

Knowing his work needed a darker element, he contacted a former student of his who was loaded with talent, but also horrified him with her scary stories. Caitlin Hawker stepped up to the job and a collaboration was born.
When he’s not writing or hanging out in high school (his favorite place to be), Roger loves to fish, golf, travel and cook, not necessarily in that order. He and He and his wife have two grown sons, and live in Park City, Utah with their Golden Retriever rescue dog, Pumpkin.

Caitlin Hawker – Caitlin Hawker is a self-described “dark” persona who loves horror movies and the study of humanity’s darker side. As a child, it took her a while to learn to read and write, until her dad described to her that letters were pictures, and then suddenly it all made sense. Now a prolific writer, she began penning noir fiction in high school, in typical dark, brooding teenager fashion, which scared her teachers. What was a hobby later turned into a career when Roger Arsht walked into the college bookstore where she was working and asked her to help him write a book.

When she isn’t writing, she makes costumes and dabbles in art. Caitlin is a connoisseur of all things weird, and loves to collect facts.

She and her husband live in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Caitlin is planning for the day when she can get a dog.

About the book:

Salt Lake City, Utah – Co-Authors Roger Arsht and Caitlin Hawker team together to tackle the horrors of dog fighting in She Bites, a page-turning noir thriller that keeps readers on the edge of their seats.

Robyn Sparks may be every animal-lover’s favorite vigilante. Compassionate veterinarian by day, she’s converts to animal activist at night and exacts punishment to the cruel men whose animals find their way across her surgical table in various conditions of burnt, broken, and bloody. Having seen enough, Sparks decides to make it stop. For good.

The author has paid great attention to detail, which makes this book not for the faint hearted. It has a gripping storyline, great characters, incredible attention to detail, and a plot which will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page.

Although part of a series, the Detective Max Larkin crime thrillers can all happily stand alone.

Miss Me? (Max Larkin Detective Series Book 3) by Todd M. Thiede

51ywQSQr2mL__AA160_

In this action packed story, Detectives Max Larkin and Jesse Fairlane are looking for a man who has raped and murdered.

However, they soon find themselves teamed up with FBI Agent Timothy Michaels, who informs them that the man they are looking for has in fact been raping women for a decade. Despite the best efforts of the law enforcement agencies, and incredibly, the fact that he makes no effort to hide his DNA, he is still at large!

What’s more, the rapist insist on ‘marrying’ his victim before he carries out the act. Why is this? What reasoning for this lies within his twisted mind?

This book is a real action packed page turner, full of excitement and mystery. The tension escalates as you go through the book, following the attempts of the detectives and the FBI agent in tracking down the culprit.

The author has yet again combined all the essential ingredients for a really great crime thriller, a gripping plot, great characters, and I have to say, without spoiling it for readers, that the storyline has a fantastic twist at the end!

This is the third book in the Max Larkin, Detective crime thriller series and having thoroughly enjoyed the first two I couldn’t wait to start reading this one. I have to say although part of a series it stands alone perfectly as well, although I can guarantee that after it, you will want to read the rest!

In Alan Brenham’s first book, Price of Justice, we met widower, Detective Jason Scarsdale, his daughter Shannon and Dani Mueller. After the events in that book ex Austin PD Crime Analyst Dani moved back home to her family in Garmisch, Germany. However, three years on, Jason and Dani still have a very strong transcontinental relationship, and very soon Shannon and Jason are due to visit Dani and celebrate Shannon’s birthday at the same time.

However the holiday isn’t here yet and arriving at work, Jason, who has transferred back to Homicide from the Sex Crimes division, is called into his superior’s office and informed by Sargent Kipfer, that he has a new partner, a very attractive divorcee called Tatum Harper.

Damaged Goods: A Detective Inspector White Caper – Written by Jack Everett and David Coles

513IQyBd7sL__AA160_A brilliantly gripping mystery.

Firstly, I have to say that if you are looking for a book to grab your attention right from page one and then keep you hooked right through to the very end, then this is definitely the one for you.

Robert Cleghorn is a troubled man, with a past which makes him deadly. Ex-Special Forces and CIA, he is a highly trained, dangerous killing machine. However this is not all, war vet Robert has suffered brain damage, and has undergone extensive treatments which have left him with false memories of the past and the ability to suffer no remorse, a cruel and calculated killer.

Bubbling under the surface of this tortured mind is the injustice he believes his brother Alan has done to him, an infatuation with his sister-in-law Stephanie, and the firm belief that given the chance to talk to her, she will love him again. Then, whilst working for Alan at his home near Lake Kissimmee in Florida he snaps…

Whilst in the U.K. Detective inspector Stewart White is starting his new job in Leeds. As he settles in, and gets to know the officers, including the mysterious Shelly, a link is discovered between a series of seemingly random crimes. It soon becomes apparent that there is a deadly killer out there who must be caught quickly. But who are they searching for?

As communications hot up between American and the U.K., the true horror of the events in Florida unveil themselves and things begin to make sense. The killer has travelled to the U.K. on a false passport and is on a mission to right past wrongs, leaving a killing spree in his wake.

Following a trail across a snow clad Yorkshire, the police and the CIA are both desperate to stop this man, before he accomplishes his goal, but which one, if either will manage to do so?

This book was truly un-put-down-able, action packed with strong characters, an excellent plot, and plenty of twists and turns right until the last page. With such a brilliant storyline, I would love to see it made into a film. I cannot recommend it highly enough and look forward to reading more from these talented authors.

About the Authors:

JACK EVERETT is author and coauthor of a number of fantasy, science fiction, crime and thriller novels. Some are published, some are in progress and others are still in gestation. Jack also handcrafts stunning snooker cues and award-winning modern objets d’art from exotic and magnificently figured timbers. He collects books and playing cards though there is little space in a much overcrowded home. He dreams of having a bigger library, and hopes to one day have the extra room he dreams of.

DAVID COLES began writing fantasy and science fiction longer ago than he can now remember. His works have explored the local stars, killed off huge numbers of Roman legionaries, uncovered what happened to King Arthur and the Round Table—and hatched a few thriller plots. A founding member of the international Historical Novel Society, he has attended workshops run by Terry Pratchett and the late David Gemmel. David lives with his wife and a pet laptop in God’s own county—Yorkshire in the UK—where he also designs and builds websites for friends and programs for fun.

About the book: Newly promoted Detective Inspector Stewart White starts off his career in Leeds with a seemingly random assortment of crimes. A rest area murder. A pub brawl. A missing person.

As the deadly crime spree escalates, White receives a chilling call from a Florida sheriff. A psychotic Special Forces veteran, Robert Cleghorn, has murdered his brother, assumed his identity—and is believed to be looking for his brother’s vacationing wife in England.

Black Harvest (The Project Book 4) by Alex Lukeman

black harvestThis book has all the components of a brilliant thriller, it is action packed and keeps the reader on the edge of their seats.

We have always accepted that there are lessons to be learnt from the past, secrets buried, waiting to be discovered. Some, have been buried deeply, for a reason. They should never be found.

This is the story of what happens when one such secret is unleashed on this modern world. The plot unfortunately, is all too feasible, which is frightening really, however, everywhere we look now-a-days we see plenty of evidence of mans greed and lust for power.

Nick Carter, the main character is everything we would imagine a top agent to be, intelligent, ruthless, a trained killer, and a man able to deal with any situation. This type of job however, has its own penalties, including having to conquer the recurring demons from his past. Throughout the story, these threaten the future of a blossoming affair with one of his team mates Selena Connor, can people in jobs like theirs ever hope for love?

This is the first Alex Lukeman story I have read, but I shall certainly be looking out for more.

In Temple, Texas, Police Detective Matt Brady, assisted by FBI Special Agent Steve Casani, is investigating the disappearances of five beautiful women. Desperate, with no leads and the number of missing women growing at an alarming pace, Matt is desperate for answers.

Everyone knows that the person we become in life can be affected in a moment, by a word, or circumstance. These life-changing moments or words, for some people are stamped in their mind forever, silently festering and waiting to emerge, bringing back memories, which cloud the present.

This book is even more enjoyable because, whilst writing it, the author has been able to draw from his wealth and variety of personal experience in police and law, among which is his time as a Temple patrol officer and, Assistant General Counsel for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

The Pakistan Conspiracy, A Novel of Espionage by Francesca Salerno

Fast paced political thriller.

Product Details

After the horror of 9/11, the world searched for Osama Bin Laden, leader of the terrorist group Al Qaeda. SEAL Team Six found, captured, and killed him in Abbottabad in May 2011, but the story doesn’t end there.

At the time of his capture and death CIA agent Kate Langley had been working at the American Embassy in Pakistan. Then, suddenly she’s transferred back to Washington, on the orders of the Pakistan Foreign Ministry, suspected of being a spy.

However, from her desk, back on American soil, Kate discovers that the Al Qaeda are about to seek revenge for the killing of their leader. Their plan is to destroy a western city. Yasser Khalidi Al-Greeb has managed to acquire a small, portable nuclear weapon, from a retired Russian KGB colonel, and they plan to use it in Manhatten, where it will have catastrophic consequences.

Kate returns to Pakistan, as an undercover agent, with no protection, no back up, only her instincts to keep her safe. With help, she manages to trace the path of the weapon from Moscow to Karachi, all the time aware that if it reaches America all will be lost.

Right from page one, this book is action packed, exciting, and full of political intrigue, I just could not put it down. It has very plausible characters, great attention to detail, and scene setting. If you are looking for a fast-paced political thriller full of suspense, with plenty of twists and turns I would not hesitate to recommend it.

Review by Susan Keefe

Detective Max Larkin has just returned to work in the Rockton Police Department after being suspended for withholding information, following his solving of the ‘Time Killer’ murders with his partner Jesse.

Straight away, Captain Perry has another case for the partners to solve. Professor Lawrence Finestein has been found dead, under unusual circumstances. As the detectives’ try to discover a motive, who was responsible, and what made the killer brand his victim, the need for answers becomes more urgent as other victims start to appear, each with the same calling card.

Unfortunately, Max and Jesse just do not seem to be able to agree when the killer is caught and soon a rift appears, one which must be healed for the sake of everybody. As the tension mounts, new discoveries are made and it’s time for Max and Jesse put their differences aside and work together.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this fast moving crime thriller. Right from page one it is action packed, with plenty of twists and turns, and a storyline, which keeps the reader guessing, right until the end.

An excellent second story in the Max Larkin Detective series, I look forward to reading more.

Review by Susan Keefe

Coming to terms with the loss of a love one is never easy. Regrets haunt P.D. Detective Jason Scarsdale, in the weeks following his young wife’s death, especially since he blames himself.

When Scarsdale and his partner, Sean Harris of the Austin Police Departments, Sex Crimes Division are instructed to investigate a child molestation, they soon realize the case is far more involved than first appears. Their investigations lead them deep into a paedophile ring, whose tentacles reach far and wide, with repercussions which will affect them in ways they never could have foreseen.

When Jason becomes friendly with co-worker Dani Mueller he doesn’t realize that she has her own hidden secrets which will affect his life more than he could have ever imagined.

Cleverly written, with believable characters and great attention to detail, the author has made full use of his in-depth experience in both police and law departments, to write a brilliant crime thriller.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this detailed and captivating story, which kept me guessing throughout with its twists and turns.

Review by Susan Keefe

In this, the second book in the Roma Series, the story opens with Alabaster Black (alias Bianca Nerini) returning from Rome to Boston, Massachusetts, leaving behind her lover, Dante, and friends in Rome, Italy.

Rendition, her employer, a covert U.S. agency, has persuaded her to infiltrate Nasonia Pharmaceuticals, a drug manufacturing company owned by Cyril Sargent. Nasonia, is working on a revolutionary new drug using insect-based genetics to develop a new cancer-cure and Rendition want to know more.

Then, when Farrugia and Gennaro, her friends from the Rome, arrive in Boston for another reason, she discovers that leaving the past behind is not as simple as just getting on a plane; they bring some disturbing news for her, ghosts from the past have resurfaced…

I found Wasp’s Nest a compelling reading, action-packed and with intriguing characters. The plot had plenty of twists and turns, some surprising secrets, and it kept me on the edge of my seat, guessing until the very end.

Gabriel Valjan includes a tantalising glimpse into Book 3 of the Roma Series, Threading the Needle which I had read first, but I realized that the author created each volume independent of each other.

Review by Susan Keefe:

Isidore Farrugia is a cop, brought up during the Years of Lead, a horrific period in Italian history, a time of terror and killing, his childhood memories, scarred forever by the brutal death of his mother. Nevertheless, he is a good man, loyal and protective of his friends and colleagues.

This is why although off duty and out of jurisdiction, when his friend Bianca arranges a meeting with her informant, Charles Brooks, he insists on coming too. However, soon his onlooker role changes, when the young 23-year-old American, Bianca came to meet is killed, and so are his assassins.

Then another murder takes place, and the Italian police investigators find themselves unearthing a web of political intrigue.

Bianca has a secret though, she knows, she must uncover the truth behind the information she has been entrusted with, despite warnings from her mysterious online contact Loki, to stay away. Adastra, a weapons manufacturer is hiding something… But what?

I found myself hooked, right from the start of this brilliant, action packed, political crime thriller, which is set in Milan.

For those, like myself, who are interested in history, the Afterword about the Years of Lead by Claudio Ferrara was very interesting.

This is actually the third book in the ‘Roma’ series, by this talented author, and there is a tantalising glimpse at the end into his fourth book, ’Turning to Stone.’

About Dark Lullaby  At a tavern one Friday night, astrophysicist Gabriel Diaz meets a mysterious young woman. Captivated by her beauty as well as her views on good and evil, he spends the next several days with her. After a while, however, he begins to notice a strangeness in her…especially the way she seems to take pleasure in toying with his conscience.

The young woman, Kamilah, invites him to Rize, Turkey, where she claims her family owns a cottage in the woods. In spite of his heavy workload and the disturbing visions and nightmares about his sister’s baby that is due to be born soon, Gabriel agrees to go with her.

But nothing, not even the stunning beauty of the Black Sea, can disguise the horror of her nature…

In a place where death dwells and illusion and reality seem as one, Gabriel must now come to terms with his own demons in order to save his sister’s unborn child, and ultimately, his own soul.

Dream Realm Awards Finalist!

Review by Susan Keefe

Tumbling into a second relationship straight after finishing one, is not a good idea, however who could have known that Gabriel Diaz, relaxing in a bar with an ex-girlfriend, would have his world turned upside down when the beautiful, mysterious Kamilah comes over and introduces herself, or could have foretold the incredible repercussions which were to follow.

From that night, they are inseparable, Gabriel is infatuated with Kamilah, and in turn, she seems fascinated by him. Although he is due to visit his sister for the birth of her baby, when Kamilah announces that she’s decided to visit her homeland, Turkey, Gabriel decides to go with her.

When they arrive in Rize, Gabriel discovers another world, where things are not always what they seem, superstitions and folklore are rife and the locals appear strange and aloof, perhaps afraid…

They hike to Kamilah’s remote cottage, high in the mountains, looking forward to a romantic holiday away from the world, but soon Gabriel discovers that things are not as they seem, the forest holds dark secrets. As the story unfolds, he finds himself doubting what he hears, or sees with his own eyes, even his sanity.

I loved this story, which started as a romance, then quickly evolved into a spine chilling horror, transporting you back to a land where folklore legends, based on truth are alive, and unimaginable creatures walk the earth.

The Starlight Club 4 by Joe Corso

The beautiful and the dangerous.

It’s Thanksgiving, a great time for family and yet again we are transported back in time to 1962 by Bobby Valentine as he relaxes after dinner and settles down to tell his daughter Lynn a bit more about what life was like way back then.

Despite popular belief, Red Fortunato is not dead, he has survived, and what’s more, he’s determined to rebuild The Starlight Club and have Frank Sinatra perform there on opening night.

He’s a man used to giving orders and being in control, however, even he is surprises when he attends a business meeting and finds himself with Marilyn Munro in his arms.

This action packed story is full of sex and corruption, set in the dark world of politics with the writer throwing a new light on Marilyn’s death, the political intrigue surrounding Jackie and Bobby Kennedy and suggest there was a potential threat on Richard Nixon’s life.

I thoroughly enjoyed this excellent story, which contains many of the familiar, if not lovable characters, from the Starlight Club series.

The Starlight Club III by Joe Corso

Fantastic mixture of action and politics.

The Starlight Club III

As a daughter, when your father allows you a glimpse into his past, telling stories which help you understand the man he has become it’s an honour. So, when Bobby Valentine visits his daughter Lynn she cannot resist asking for just one more tale about his life at The Starlight Club. How can a father refuse?

Set in the early sixties with John Kennedy as President and Bobby Kennedy as his Attorney General.

Getting to President is no easy thing, strings have to be pulled, deals made, the right introductions and for all this, there is a price to pay. Promises made by others are not binding, some people believe, and Bobby Kennedy calls on Agent Lonegan to recruit mercenaries who become rogue “Federal Agents.”

When the time honoured rules and promises are broken the Mafia are not happy and retaliation is the name of the game. Who did kill John Kennedy?

Along with new characters, all our favourites are still here from the rest of this brilliant series of stories, and their lives evolve in it.

With an exciting story line, which encompasses murder, mystery, boxing, politics and much more, Joe Corso has written yet another classic.

Let’s hope we see a Starlight Club IV soon.

The Revenge of John W by Joe Corso

Gripping tale of power, revenge and retribution.

The Revenge of John W

Set present day Mohave, Arizona, we follow the life and times of John W.

In this enthralling thriller about his fall and rise to power, we discover wonderful, very believable characters, and find John becoming the victim of a grave injustice, which leads to his meeting with Dutch Henry, a man who changes his life.

This book has a fantastic storyline, exciting, involving large corporations and powerful men, and of course John, who persistently tracks his prey – the people who destroyed his life!

I read this in one session, went through a myriad of emotions and could quite happily have picked it up and re-read it again straight away. Joe Corso goes from strength to strength; I can’t wait to read his next one.

The Starlight Club II by Joe Corso

The highly recommended action packed sequel.

The Starlight Club II

When Robert ‘Bobby’ Valentine’s daughter Lynn asks him for more stories about The Starlight Club, how can he refuse? As Bobby recounts his memories of this time in his life and Queens in the early 60’s, the reader is treated to a glimpse of what life was like then, the Mafia’s influence, intrigue, boxing and the film industry.

This story is action packed and contains ruthless violence but as always, there are good ‘bad’ guys, and bad ‘bad’ guys. It can stand alone or continue seamlessly on from The Starlight Club I, as it features the same wonderful characters, but in Volume II the author has added many new.

At the end of this brilliant story, there seems to be a psychological tension building similar to that of Alfred Hitchcock, with a host of intrigue and Trenchie facing the greatest challenge of his life.

Un-put-down-able, I read this in one session and can’t wait for volume III!

The Starlight Club by Joe Corso

Winner of the eLit silver in the eLit Book Awards True Crime category

Action packed and a fantastic read!

The Starlight Club

Set in present day. Robert ‘Bobby’ Valentine has asked his daughter to come to New York so he can tell her about his life…

Sitting in an Italian Restaurant, which used to be The Starlight Club, he looks back over the years, and reminisces about life in Queens in the early 60’s and the people who lived there.

As the story unfolds we find ourselves drawn into events at the club, we’re permitted through the power of the story to go back in time and take a glimpse into the hard world of the Mafia families.

Somehow, if it is possible to do so, in a nice way, the author has produced a riveting read, full of violence and action packed. The essence of life in Queens is captured at a time of great unrest and warfare, where murder was not personal – it was just a job, which had to be done.

This book was a thoroughly enthralling read, filled with amazing characters like Big Red, Trenchie and James Roman (at the time the latest movie idol). There’s even a guest appearance from George Raft! I can only hope that there are more stories like this one to come.

The Old Man And The King by Joe Corso

Move over Clive Cussler!

The title says it all in this fast paced, action packed, murder mystery thriller.

Reading this, I very quickly found myself drawn into the plot by the author’s fantastic scene setting, and its engaging characters. I especially liked the brilliant and surprising character of the old man Lom (Who is no ordinary old man), and Toby, Charlie and Martha who are involved in a fight for their lives.

This is a thoroughly enjoyable, un-put- down-able, action packed story – move over Clive Cussler, there’s a new king in town.

Exciting, multifaceted sci-fi thriller.

Order of the Dimensions

When I started reading this book, I was fascinated into how it would develop, it didn’t take me long to discover the answer – very quickly!

When Jane and her team of graduate students work with their professor on a box, which can transport people into different dimensions someone has to try it. Jane decides to and makes a terrible discovery; very soon, she and her friends are desperately struggling to save the world.

This is a very fast-paced sci-fi thriller, with the characters having totally different lives in the other dimensions. A multifaceted story containing spies, a love story, many twists and turns and a cliffhanger at the end, I would recommend this to young adult and adults who enjoy reading futuristic sci-fi books.

I couldn’t put this book down, and would thoroughly recommend it. The storyline is brilliant and there are some great twists.

Price of Justice by Alan Brenham

The Price of Justice by Alan Brenham  is a really good action packed, 5 star, crime thriller which I couldn’t put down.

A recent widower, Austin P.D. Detective Jason Scarsdale is battling with personal grief and learning how to cope bringing up his young daughter Shannon alone.

When Jason and his partner Sean Harris are instructed to investigate a case of child molestation, little do they realise where their enquiries will lead, or how far its tentacles’ will reach.

Things seem a little brighter when Jason strikes up a friendship with co-worker Dani Mueller, but little does he know that she has her own dark secrets, which will affect his life more than he could ever have imagined.

The insights into how police and law departments work, which this experienced author can give, makes this book a brilliant crime thriller.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this cleverly written, detailed and captivating story, which kept me guessing throughout with its twists and turns.

A fantastic and imaginative futuristic spy thriller.

Horace Mayberry has always dreamed of becoming a special agent, but being born with eye problems, his dreams seem even more impossible when, just after his 17th birthday he becomes totally blind.
