Ava loves birds and is very caring; however this doesn’t save her from being teased by the `popular’ girls at her school.

She shares a love of shot put and discus with her dad and decides that she would like to make him proud by enter these events at the School Athletics Carnival.

When spiteful teasing means the loss of something important, she calls upon her friend the Rainbow Bird for help, and is transformed into a magnificent bird of prey, which saves the day and leaves her with a good luck talisman.

Despite everything Ava comes through in the end in this great book which will appeal especially to girls and lovers of birds of prey, as it has some fascinating facts about the Black-shouldered Kite in the back.
