I’m a long-time fan of The Starlight Club series of books by
Joe Corso. Each story is a stand-alone, however it is fascinating to watch the
characters’ lives evolve over the series. The stories are told through the eyes
of Bobby, someone who observed the events of that time, and he narrates them to
his daughter Lynn, in the little room built for him. at her home in Darien, Connecticut.
Joe Corso is an award-winning author, who was born in
Queens, New York, and attended the Manhattan HS of Aviation trades, and the
Academy of Aeronautics. He is a Korean veteran. As well as writing this
excellent series, he has also written amazing stories from his years as a firefighter
working for the FDNY. He has also written adventure, science fiction, and
westerns. He has four children, thirteen grandchildren, and five great
In this exciting story, Bobby takes us right back to the 1960’s,
at The Starlight Club, with its owner Red, and right hand man Trenchie. Through
their dealings both with the gangsters, cops, their ‘family’ and others,
readers are able to get a real feel for life in Queens at that time. Plus, in
this story, Bobby reveals a terrible mistake he made as a youngster, and one he
has never forgotten…
At this time, as well as the continuing underground power
struggles with gangland bosses, it is the time of horrendous riots which raged
in New York, causing terrible loss of lives, and the storyline gives a glimpse
into how these were instigated, and by whom.
However, it was a potential hit on Joey-Boy, one of Red’s
men which brought about the meeting of Red with the ‘Old Doll,’ Betsy Nagel, a
now reclusive former Ziegfeld Follies, girl. Captivated by this star of
legendary grandeur, Red’s mission becomes to reintroduce her to the modern
world. With the help of his famous movie star wife, Iris Lang, and his company,
Starlight Productions in California, Red is determined the world will yet again
wonder at Betsy Nagel’s timeless talent, and beauty.
In this book, through the talented writing of this award-winning author, we are able to enter the underground world of gang life in New York. We learn of the camaraderie, code of honour, and unswerving code of ethics that the members of the families live by. Life is ruthless, death can happen at any time, yet the families and those they care about are protected and looked after at any cost.
I highly recommend this book, and indeed the whole series as wonderfully written gangland crime thrillers, with dashes of romance, and compassion included.
About the Author:
Joe Corso (1935 – ) Born in Queens, New York. Attended Manhattan HS of Aviation trades, and the Academy of Aeronautics. He is a Koren Veteran and retired from the FDNY. He has 4 children and 13 Grandchildren and . . . 5 great grandchildren. Corso is the author of ‘The Starlight Club’ novels. His novel, ‘The Revenge of John W’ will be available shortly on Amazon.
For those lovers of gangster stories set in the early 1960’s
New York, where tough men played for high stakes and the old values still held
high, then there doesn’t get better than the Starlight Club series.
Set in Queens, the stories are told by Bobby, who now lives
with his daughter Lynn. He may be aging, but the good old days are still clear
memories, and she loves to hear his stories. Big Red Fortunato is the owner of
the famous Starlight Club and the boss. With his captains Trenchie, and Tarzan,
and their loyal employees, this is their territory and only the foolish go up
However, there are always fools who think they can take
over, or dupe the boss, and sometimes they have to learn the hard way…
This is the case in this exciting story where a gang of young
thugs think they can disrupt the status quo in Queens, and learn very quickly
that vandalizing vending and slot machines on Red’s turf is a BAD idea. However
Red knows they’re not the brains behind the petty behaviour and, there’s more
to it than meets the eye. It doesn’t take much leaning on them to turn them
into quivering wrecks who are only too keen to rat on the person whose put them
in the situation. However, when they spill the beans, Red quickly realises that
their contact is only small fry too, one in a chain. Deeper investigations
reveal that there’s a take-over plan is being hatched by someone further afield
with grandiose ideas.
Indeed, Haiti is a long way away from Queens, there Bernard
Levey is safe, scheming with the islands voodoo dictator Poppa Doc. However
when Levey steps onto Red’s home turf he discovers he has not only Red to
answer to, but there is also a little matter to be dealt with concerning
millions which went missing in his other life, a time when he was known as Ira Goldblum.
It’s action at every turn, and as this story evolves, the
plots cascade into each other. The author, Joe Corso’s fans already know the
wonderful tales he can tell through Bobby, however, it’s not just the
storylines and fantastic plots which make this author’s stories shine out from
the crowd, it’s his characters. Through his writing readers get a real insight
into the close knit community which is the gangland mobs, their loyalties,
their taboos and the mind-set of these men who will take a bullet if necessary
for what they believe in.
Whether you read the Starlight Club stories as they are published, or pick them to read randomly, it doesn’t matter. The characters, the settings, and the action make this series one every fan of crime, adventure and gangland dealings will love.

About the Book:
Meyer Lansky, famous crime boss, has to leave his beautiful luxury hotel, Habana Riviera in a hurry when government unrest causes upheaval in Cuba. In the confusion of exiting the country, one of Meyer’s trusted associates, Ira Goldbaum, steals millions of dollars of Meyer’s money and hastily leaves the country. Meyer vows to get even and to recover his money, but when his closest friend Charlie “Lucky” Luciano dies, he has no one to trust to help him find Ira and get back what is rightfully his. Then he remembers Big Red Fortunato, a powerful mob boss who is not connected to the corruption of the conglomerate Meyer has been instrumental in creating. Red is glad to help Meyer, putting their past differences aside, but he has a laundry list of other pressing issues that are part of being a crime boss. Besides entertaining Meyer Lansky, there are a group of young punks busting up slot machines and jukeboxes that Red owns, he has company from Las Vegas, and his wife called, hinting at trouble at his movie studios in Los Angeles. Red feels pushed and pulled from coast to coast as the thought occurs to him: Can all of these problems be connected in some way? This is the twelfth explosive installment in the award-winning Starlight Club series by Joe Corso, following the adventures of Big Red Fortunato and his cohort of colorful characters.
Those, who like myself love the Starlight Club series adore
them not only for their excitement, but also for the way they immerse us into
the sights and sounds of a time long past. The stories which an elderly Bobby
tell his daughter Lynn allow an insight into the ruthless, yet honourable life of
Big Red Fortunato and the men who worked for him.
In this story, Lynn has joined Bobby in the new rumpus room
to hear a story about Bull. So Bobby takes us all back to 1962 and the Lucky
Draw Card Club in Anaheim, California.
Things have settled
down nicely at the club and Bull decides it’s time to move on and take up his
job as manager of Red’s Double Seven casino in Las Vegas, but on the way he
decides to pop in on his old army buddy Sal Stark.
When Bull arrives at the Lucky Lady Restaurant and Casino
which Sal and his wife Cindy own he is troubled to discover that they are being
bullied by Jarret Hastings a local business man who wants to buy the casino. He
finds Sal recovering in hospital, and it appears Hastings will stop at nothing
to get his own way. However, Hastings is yet to meet the formidable Bull who
owes Sal an enormous debt of gratitude for saving his life in Korea, and when
Bull discovers more about Hastings ‘businesses’ it becomes apparent that he
must be stopped!
Hastings, working from a warehouse has some very shady business deals going down, and when Bull discovers that one of them is kidnapping young girls and selling them to rich Arabs for perverse acts he is incensed.
However, this turns to blood lust when little orphan Susie,
who has been praying for a saviour from her captors gets the chance to plead to
her ‘saint’ Bull. Hearing her story he immediately takes her to Sal and his
wife Cindy, and sets about stopping the horrific trafficking of young girls.
Bull is joined by Red, (who leaves the Starlight Club in the
charge of Tarzan,) Trenchie, Pissclam, and Johnny Eight Fingers. These men
hardened to what life has dealt them have very strict rules and one of them is
that they will not tolerate anyone abusing kids, they believe that kids are
innocent and should be kept away from harm.
With temperatures rising to boiling point, Hastings is
determined to get the casino to facilitate money laundering, the Arabs expect
to have their shipments of young girls on time, and Bull, Red, and the boys are
determined that they will be stopped!
Through the Starlight Club stories those of us who have
never been, and hopefully never will be part of this type of world are treated
to a fly-on-the-wall view of the honour system that these types of men live by.
The underworld which those not in the know don’t see, a world of corruption and
greed, where life is expendable yet debts are honoured and always repaid, and
men who have each other’s backs, are loyal without question, and put family
The author Joe Corso has, in this exciting new book in the Starlight Club series yet again brought the sights, sounds and values of a bygone era back to life. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves an exciting adventure full of crime, love, passion, and twists and turns at every page turn.

About the Book
Taking a detour on his way back to Vegas, Bull, one of Big Red Fortunato’s right-hand men, visits his old army buddy, Sal Stark. Sal has bought a small casino in Lake Topaz, a small town off Route 66 in the Mojave desert. Upon arriving at the Lucky Lady, Bull is dismayed to discover that Sal has been severely beaten, apparently by local “businessmen” who want to claim the casino as their own. Further investigation reveals that the head of this organization, Jarret Hastings, is holding a group of little girls captive. One of the little girls, Susie, is rescued by Bull and believes him to be “The Saint of Lake Topaz” she’s been praying for. Bull’s hardened heart is unfrozen and he immediately calls his boss, Big Red, owner of the famous Starlight Club in Queens, to assist in taking down what is likely a human trafficking ring. But what Red and Bull, with the assistance of the usual players—Pissclam, Johnny Eight Fingers, Trenchie, and others—find out is that the kidnapping of young girls by Hastings is just the tip of the iceberg. In this 11th installment of the popular, multi-award-winning Starlight Club series, author Joe Corso takes us on a thrill ride through the little-traveled roads of Nevada desert in the 1960s, when the local law was often subject to interpretation!

Money laundering and deception in Brooklyn, New York.
Bobby has driven up from Florida to spend Christmas with his daughter Lynn, her husband Ted, and their three children in Connecticut. These are special times as the years go by for Lynn and Bobby to spend time together, and for Lyn to hear tales of the glory days of the famous Starlight Club in Brooklyn, New York.
This story begins in 1962 with an unpleasant patron causing Ernie the bartender to take physical action against him. However, it appears that there is more to this incident that at first meets the eye, and when Red hears who is behind the problems and that the reason behind it is money laundering, he realises that it is time to take the matter in hand. Surrounded by loyal men who do what they must do in this underground world, Red realises that it is also important to keep the police and judicial system happy with pay-outs to smooth over any problems, even if is becoming increasingly expensive.
Meanwhile Joey is asked to once again look after movie mogul daughter June Morganstein in Los Angeles, something he is happy to do as he is madly in love with her. After an attempt on her life, Joey gets to the bottom of the mystery of why she needs protection and discovers that she has a gambling addiction which has got out of control. However, calling for assistance from other members of Red’s workforce unveils dirty deeds at the gambling club she frequents, and the owner’s alliances with villains and a Mexican drug cartels. Seizing the opportunity to nip trouble in the bud Red and his men take matters into their own control, with the unofficial backing of the new Captain of the 10th Precinct Captain Lou Garner.
Reading the Starlight Club series is a real delight, within the pages of each of the books you are transported back in time to Brooklyn, and into a world where crime bosses rule the streets and yet are respected, even by the law. Through Red, Trenchie, Joey and all the characters who have been so important to the structure of the stories the everyday lives, loves, dangers and even celebrities of the time come alive. The comradeship these brothers in arms share, dangerous and often deadly activities, and underhand dealings are revealed. However, running through every story are strong veins of loyalty and respect which span generations.
Whether you are looking to read a really good story, love crime and gangster novels, or enjoy this period of history, I can guarantee you will not want to put down this exciting story, and it will leave you wanting more.

About the Book:
The Starlight Club 10: Love, romance, and murder in Anaheim (back cover blurb. The tenth book in the multi-award-winning international best-selling mob series finds Red facing a new challenge. Manheim Steiner has set up headquarters in Queens, NY, and he’s taking over local businesses. The question Red asks himself is… Why?Meanwhile, June Morgenstein, a beautiful young society woman and the daughter of a movie mogul, is being threatened again, and Red sends mob enforcer Joey Bones to Anaheim to protect her a second time. Joey’s heart soars at the thought of being with June. But this time, protecting her isn’t that simple, and his assignment doesn’t go as expected. Will June’s selfishness place everyone around her in danger, especially her handsome bodyguard?
What daughter doesn’t love listening to her father’s stories, and this exciting new Starlight Club adventure opens with Lynn, devoted daughter of Bobby, waiting for her father to return from a visit to Queens, where he hopes to see some old friends.
When he arrives safely home they settle down with a coffee and some Sambuca, and Bobby tells Lynn of his day, and how it had bought back memories of a troubling period in 1975 when the Sicilians had arrived in Queens and set up in business selling drugs.
You see, Big Red Fortunato, owner of the Starlight Club, despite having his fingers in many pies did not condone drugs and prostitution on the streets of Queens. So when the word got back to him that the Zips were peddling drugs, he wasted no time in sending out his men to get more information, and after a ‘meeting’ with the Sicilians, he eventually discovered who the leader of the cartel was.
Determined to keep drugs of his streets, and with a fortuitous legitimate excuse for visiting Sicily, Red, Tarzan and Trenchie set off to meet Antonio Andolino, the person responsible for sending the Zips over, and the leader of one of the largest drug cartels in the world.
Used to being feared, Antonio has never met the likes of Red before and as the meeting deteriorates it is clear that the problem is not going to be solved simply.
In this powerful, exciting story we follow Red and his gang as they travel between Queens and Sicily, and very early on find ourselves fascinatingly ensconced in the world of the Sicilian mafia, with their proud honour, sense of family, blood oaths, and revenge killings.
This enthralling story brings together many of the past very memorable characters in the Starlight Club books, and if you are a fan, like me your will quickly remember them like old friends, however if this is the first book in the series you have read, it doesn’t matter, as everything is wonderfully explained and you will find yourself sinking into this excellent plot and its larger than life personalities with ease.
The author has managed through his amazing storytelling to bring the streets of Queens and the atmosphere of Sicily magically to life, in weaving together a clever story which includes drama, murder, mayhem, and kidnapping.
A really gripping thriller, reading The Starlight Club, An Easy Death, with its twist and turns, will keep you riveted to the page, and keen to know what will happen next, I highly recommend it.

I found that I could write a good story which resulted in 31 books and 32 awards, designating me a 4 time top 100 best selling author.

About the Book:
The powerful mob leader knew that selling drugs brings heat. Local and federal heat. It’s 1974 and Big Red Fortunato’s order that no drugs are to be sold in Queens has been broken. He discovers that the powerful Sicilian mafia has defied his rule and is selling drugs with utter disregard for who he is. Red has to stop them without starting a war he may not win.
Tarzan’s recently deceased father bequeathed his house to him, but upon visiting it Tarzan discovers squatters living in it… and they refuse to leave.
Red visits Sicily under the pretext of scouting for movie locations. He arranges a meeting with Antonio Andolino the man in charge of the burgeoning Sicilian drug trade, with the hope of convincing him not to ship drugs to Queens. To hedge their bets in case the talks fail, Sicilian mobsters kidnap two of Red’s valuable assets to use as leverage against him. Red has to figure out how to get them back unharmed.
The multi-award winning (10 awards) best selling series continues with the publication of the 9th Starlight Club book.
It wasn’t until the author of this exciting new crime thriller, Alan Trustman, retired from being a partner in a successful law firm, that he began a new career as a film writer. He wrote the screen plays for the films, Bullitt, The Thomas Crown Affair, They Call Me Mr. Tibbs, The Next Man, and Le Mans.
The main character in this story is a tough guy from Brooklyn, a ruthless killer, dangerous, deadly, and yet still a man, and, as we discover not totally impervious to womanly wiles. However, in essence, this story is an action packed crime thriller from the very first page.
Imagine, if you can, dipping into the ultra-spy world Ian Fleming’s, James Bond, then add the mystery and attention to details of Clive Cussler’s action adventures, and you will just begin to have some idea of how absolutely enthralling this story is. If you love books in which you get so absorbed that you find yourself compulsively turning each page craving to know what happens next, with nail biting twists and turns, then you will love The Pursuit of Happiness.
The author’s incredible attention throughout the plot to the details regarding the history, geography, locations, characters, and weaponry used, all add immeasurably to the readers’ enjoyment of this story.
From the moment I picked up this book I enjoyed every page, and I for one, hope that there is a sequel.
About the Book: A bad boy from Boston seeks fulfillment.
Although they live apart, Bobby has a wonderful relationship with his daughter Lynn, and she never tires of hearing his tales of the Starlight Club in Queens, New York. So, as they wait for the snow to clear before Bobby returns home, he tells her of a pivotal time in its history…
Suddenly he’s back in 1962, and the boys are at the Zebra Club celebrating the return of their mate Renato after his discharge from the army. However, when they witness a friend being beaten up across the road, they take chase. When they catch up however, in the blink of an eye the situation changes, as they could do in those days, and Renato is beaten nearly to death by the gang’s leader, Sailor Burke.
Now Bobby jumps forward to 1965, and at the Starlight Club Tarzan is suggesting a new barman for the club, none other than the aforementioned Renato Mellina. Red remembers him, and after a little talk about loyalty and family he is hired.
Soon however trouble comes knocking at Red’s door in the form of Aldo Zinera who has been hired to head the new government F.B.I task force on organised crime. He has a vendetta against Red, and leaving no room for doubt, or error, Aldo quickly informs Red that he will get him, uncover his crimes and see him sent to prison.
Realising the very ‘real’ danger he is in, and knowing that it is possible for charges to be made to stick, Red embarks on a fight, literally for his life.
Always used to taking care of his people, Red now has to look after himself and his new wife. Soon he realises there is only one course of action left open to him which will stop the vindictive Aldo.
It is drastic, however, once resolved, Red wastes no time in setting his plan in action, calling in favours and getting on with the job. It’s not the time for regrets, now is the time for action!
Undaunted, the plan is carried out, however, things hot up almost out of control as Red and his men find themselves literally fighting for their lives.
The question is – can Red pull the right strings, has he the necessary clout to survive?
With a fantastic storyline and brilliant characters this book is action packed right to the last page. Imaginative subplots, revenge, passion, love and betrayal, the Starlight Club 7 has it all, and is definitely a winner for all crime thriller fans.
As it closes, I ask myself, although this is called ‘End Game’ and is it truly the end of an era?
As the last page is read, only one person has that answer, and that’s the author, Joe Corso.

Life is good for Detective Max Larkin, he’s riding on a high after solving an important rape and murder mystery (Miss Me?). What’s more, he is very happy with life, he has been asked to join the FBI, and to top it all, is in love with a wonderful woman.
As the book opens he is about to attend a TV interview in Chicago.
However, the interview doesn’t go quite as expected, and he finds himself targeted by a killer who is out to kill everyone he loves. The killer is very clever, his revenge on Max is out there, on the internet, and there are dire consequences if Max doesn’t play ball…
As the grizzly death toll grows, the murders are carries out in unspeakable ways, egged on by the powers of the social media.
The author has paid great attention to detail, which makes this book not for the faint hearted. It has a gripping storyline, great characters, incredible attention to detail, and a plot which will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page.
Although part of a series, the Detective Max Larkin crime thrillers can all happily stand alone.
I thoroughly enjoyed this no-holes-barred, exciting psychological thriller and would like to highly recommend it.

About the Book: Detective Max Larkin of the Rockton PD is flying high: he has just solved his third huge case in a year, has been asked to join the FBI, and everyone wants a piece of him. Not to mention that he’s with the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with. But then someone with a very personal grudge against him begins murdering people he knows and loves in gruesome ways, and it takes all his strength, skill and intelligence to face the challenge, and bring in the most twisted and disturbed individual he has ever encountered.
Vividly imagined and skillfully executed, Slashtag is a tightly plotted, suspenseful psychological thriller, shot through with flashes of dark genius and macabre insight into the darker reaches of the human soul. It will leave you gripping the edge of your seat with anticipation and fear. Not advisable for the squeamish …
In this action packed story, Detectives Max Larkin and Jesse Fairlane are looking for a man who has raped and murdered.
However, they soon find themselves teamed up with FBI Agent Timothy Michaels, who informs them that the man they are looking for has in fact been raping women for a decade. Despite the best efforts of the law enforcement agencies, and incredibly, the fact that he makes no effort to hide his DNA, he is still at large!
What’s more, the rapist insist on ‘marrying’ his victim before he carries out the act. Why is this? What reasoning for this lies within his twisted mind?
This book is a real action packed page turner, full of excitement and mystery. The tension escalates as you go through the book, following the attempts of the detectives and the FBI agent in tracking down the culprit.
The author has yet again combined all the essential ingredients for a really great crime thriller, a gripping plot, great characters, and I have to say, without spoiling it for readers, that the storyline has a fantastic twist at the end!
This is the third book in the Max Larkin, Detective crime thriller series and having thoroughly enjoyed the first two I couldn’t wait to start reading this one. I have to say although part of a series it stands alone perfectly as well, although I can guarantee that after it, you will want to read the rest!

He has worked for the past decade at Elmhurst Toyota, but Thiede is in the driver’s seat as the writer of a murder mystery series featuring his hero Detective, Max Larkin. “Time Killer,” which Kirkus Reviews deemed “a fast-paced thriller” that will “keep crime and thriller fans wrapped up in its twisting plot, fast pace and memorable detective,” and “Lies To Die For” (which reached No. 1 on Amazon in the “Serial Killer” category) are available via Amazon Kindle.
