Spirit of Lost Angels is a wonderful historical adventure set in eighteenth century France, and is the first book in the author’s L’Auberge des Anges series.
Victoire Charpentier is a peasant girl who, lives in Lucie-sur-Vionne, this book is her story… and also the story of an angel talisman which is handed on through the generations of the Charpentier family.
Set in the eighteenth century, we follow the adventures of this young girl who after the death of both her parents, finds herself working as a domestic servant in Paris, then she becomes a prisoner in La Salpêtrière asylum, the most notorious of mad houses. However, it is there that she finds herself romantically involved with Jeanne de Valois, and the story unfolds even further.
In this fast paced novel we watch as Victoire reinvents herself, and then discover if she will have the bravery to join the revolution and help overthrow the aristocracy.
Throughout this very interesting story, the amount of research which has gone into its writing, and the attention to detail is amazing, making it not only a fantastic story, but also a real insight into life in those times.
About the Author: Liza grew up in Wollongong, Australia, where she worked as a general nurse and midwife for fifteen years. When she met her French husband on a Bangkok bus, she moved to France, where she has been living with her family for over twenty years. She works part-time as a French-English medical translator, and as a novelist. Since completing a creative writing course twelve years ago, several of her short stories have won awards, notably the Writers Bureau annual competition of 2004 and her stories have been published widely in anthologies and small press magazines. Her articles on French culture and tradition have been published in international magazines such as France Magazine, France Today and The Good Life France. Spirit of Lost Angels is the first in her French historical trilogy, The Bone Angel series. The second – Wolfsangel – was published in October, 2013, and the third, Blood Rose Angel, was published in November, 2015.
