Bad Love Medicine by Kevin L Schewe MD

A fantastic blend of science-fiction, time travel and history!

I have been a fan of the Bad Love Gang since the first book Bad Love Strikes. This is author, Kevin L. Schewe MD, FACRO’s fourth book in the series, and the cleverly written novels span decades and indeed take his readers to other worlds. I have to say straight away that the stories are all connected as a series, however they stand-alone very successfully.

The Bad Love Gang’s original story was set in 1974 and tells of their discovery of the “White Hole Project” a time machine made by Einstein on the orders of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. However, this, as they say is only the beginning…

The following two books take the gang on various adventures back in time, and indeed to another world, Planet Azur. And, it is the link to this planet, a “sister” to Earth, which is the reason for the Azurians mining the exotic matter, essential to their planet, in The Black Forest, southwest Germany, in November 1941. Where their presence was discovered by sergeant major Klaus Richter, a rising star in the Waffen-SS, who was tasked with leading a small squad of Nazi Waffen-SS soldiers to investigate “strange lights” in the Black Forest.

Klaus Richter’s discovery of the Azurian spaceship, and the exotic matter, led to Adolph Hitler instructing Gunther Brandt, the brilliant theoretical and quantum mechanics physicist work to build his own time machine, named the ”Black Hole Project.” This of course could not be allowed to happen!

This book, has a really clever playlist of music for the stories, each perfect for the time and events which are taking place. The adventures are so exciting! From the gangs continuing battle in 1975, with the Russian spy Borya Krovopuskov, and his wife, as they desperately attempt to get their children back at any costs, to the gang going over to England during WWII. There in London, half the gang go to Churchill’s office as they plan to stop Hitler, whilst the others leave for Liverpool in desperate search to find Meatball’s (one of the gang’s nickname) love, Hannah Lieb.

This award winning author can really tell a wonderful tale, taking his readers on unbelievable adventures with The Bad Love Gang. “Live dangerously, have fun, don’t die!” is their motto, in this book we are to discover, this is a close call. Their missions are wide and varied, all with the best intentions, yet in this story the question is asked. Is it truly possible to go back into the past without changing the future?

I highly recommend this book for lovers of time travel, science fiction, and history.

Mart of Darkness: When More Is Not Enough by Phil Granchi

Your mind’s your limit, when you shop at the Allmart store!

This incredible comedy satire is definitely the product of a whacky mind! The author’s style of writing immediately made me think of the late Douglas Adams, and his ‘Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.’

Phil Granchi’s protagonist, Ted Kojwaclczsziziek, is literally taken on a rollercoaster ride through AllMart, the brainchild of genius entrepreneur McAlsteinetti. Ted’s job is to infiltrate AllMart with a team of special-forces operatives who fear the CEO has become unhinged, but what they discover inside transcends belief.

What an experience this book is, yes an experience, because a ‘read’ somehow doesn’t do it justice. Right from the first page we are thrown into a zany world, wacky, and at first, it seems unreal, science-fiction and fantasy. Indeed a lot of it is, however, for those who hang on for grim death, and stay the course, it is so much more. Because weaved into this incredible comedy satire, if we look carefully, there’s the history of the superstore, the hypermarket, and dare I say, those enormous corporations who seem at times to be taking over the world.

Oh yes, Allmart, like those mega giants we all know are out there, it started small, a humble store servicing the community, offering homes and work for the locals. It was popular, supported – but then somehow it just grew, and grew, and grew, until it took over the whole area. In time it became the world’s largest chain of discount stores.

The reader can see for themselves the amazing bargains, the sales gimmicks, clever marketing, those offers you just can’t resist, so much so that you forget about the credit card maxing out, you just get another one! Lost in the fantasy world of having what you want, when you want, everything is possible, doesn’t that sound magical? However, the possibilities don’t stop there, what happens when the world is not enough, well…

Join the author for the experience of a life time, meet people whose lifestyles may ring a bell, see for yourself the wonderful offers available in this unique book. If you don’t believe me why not take a look at the Allmartstores website, yes it’s there, put the name in your search engine, you’ll see what I mean.

To say that this book is cleverly written is an understatement, it is truly a work of art, a comedy satire, blended with science-fiction and fantasy, guaranteed to take you on the adventure of a lifetime. Highly recommended!

About the Author:

Phil Granchi has spent most of his life avoiding novel writing. His many distractions have included collecting fossils in Antarctica, performing a completely improvised university lecture at comedy festivals around the world, working as a freelance graphic artist in direct marketing agencies and producing online educational games for a now-defunct dotcom startup. He’s now a practicing radiologist in rural northern California. He enjoys spending time in the wilderness with his wife, Melissa Granchi, his favorite travel companion.

About the Book:

The CEO of AllMart, the world’s largest chain of discount stores, has become unhinged and the feds send a team of ultra-deep special forces to stop him. This gritty, genre-bashing, darkly-comic dystopian/sci-fi/thriller mashup takes you on a hallucinogenic carnival ride through the company’s flagship store that covers an ever-expanding swath of southern Ohio. Told through the horrified eyes of K, an office temp who has accidentally been recruited for his “special skills,” Mart of Darkness pits the team against feral live-in shoppers, morality-free executives and quantum technology that threatens to collapse the global economy. K is in way over his head and can’t find a way out. Join him as he crosses the Videocean, passes through the Great Gates of Giardiniera and gains a lasting appreciation for early Native American hunting practices. Chug an energy drink, don’t expect cell phone service inside, and climb on for the ride!

Bad Love Beyond (The Bad Love Series Book 3) by Kevin L. Schewe MD

An exciting, historically accurate, time travel adventure.

Kevin Schewe’s ‘Bad Love Series’ of science fiction adventures take storytelling to the next level. This talented author not only transports his readers on exciting adventures through time, which are historically accurate, but he also enhances their enjoyment by suggesting a sound track list. Throughout the book there are references to these songs which evoke wonderful memories for the characters, and fit into the plot brilliantly.

The main protagonists are the Bad Love Gang who live up to their motto ‘Live dangerously, have fun, don’t die.’ They are all described in the front of the book and this is where the readers discover their nicknames, and the reasons behind them. As the series has progressed the gang has grown, and between them they have a wide expanse of knowledge and skills, which prove invaluable during their escapades. However, the gang are hunted by spies Boris and Christine Krovopuskov, who will stop at nothing to learn the secrets of The White Hole Project (time machine) for Mother Russia, killing without compassion anyone who gets in their way!

As Bad Love Beyond begins, the gang find themselves invited yet again to The White House, Oval Office. However, although only ten weeks have passed since their last meeting with President Gerald R. Ford for the gang, it has been thirty years for the President. Those years between have taught him to respect the advice of the gang, and he reads them extracts from The Book of Presidents about their last visit, and events which happened in 1945 (story told in Bad Love Tigers, Book 2 in the series.) They talk about an imminent NASA mission in the planning, and then Bubble Butt reveals he has an idea for a secret plan to use The White Hole Project to go into the future. It hinges on going back in time to WW11, when the gang were sent on a mission to keep the Area 51 Project, and its secrets in America’s hands. It was on this adventure that they saw the alien Blue Nova One, he believes he can go back, re-live the time, and seize the moment to explore the future.

It’s a success! The gang are transported to the beautiful planet Azure, 11.5 billion light years from Earth, and find the planet, how it has evolved, its people, and their technology fascinating. Good relations are established. However they soon discover that the Queen of Azur is worried, an environmental disaster is set to destroy the Republic of Azure, a distant island nation, however, distrust has arisen between the peoples, can the Bad Love Gang heal the rift, help, and avert disaster? Join the gang as they battle bravely against adversity, facing danger and death in their quest to save the planet, and the people of the Republic of Azure.

Vividly detailed, and historically accurate, this author sends his readers on an unforgettable rollercoaster of a time travel story, guaranteed, I believe, to rival the classic ‘The Time Machine’ by H. G. Wells. Highly recommended!

The first Sunday of June every year is National Cancer Survivor’s Day. Dr. Schewe co-chairs a yearly celebration of National Cancer Survivor’s Day at the Red Rocks Medical Center in Golden, Colorado. Every year, he writes a skit that he and the local doctors perform in front of the Survivor’s Day crowd. The skit always has a musical theme from the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, or one of various Hollywood themes. The doctors, dressed in costumes for their parts, ask questions or pose dilemmas to each other. The answers to those questions or dilemmas are clips from songs, which the doctors lip sync and dance to in front of the crowd. Everyone dances together at the end of the skit. It is great fun and an uplifting celebration of survival for the cancer patients, their families, and loved ones.

Arcadia’s Children 3: Pushley’s Escape by Andrew R. Williams

Enter the world of Arcadia and read a spell-binding sci-fi adventure.

The author of this exciting science-fiction story, Andrew R. Williams’  ‘day job’ is a Chartered surveyor, however, by night this mild-mannered English author can be seen with his wife Geraldine staring up at the sky, watching the stars, and plotting his exciting space adventures.

Pushley’s Escape is the third book in the Arcadia’s Children series and from the very first page, the reader is hooked. As in the previous two books, the main characters are Mick Tarmy, Claire Hyndman, and Nonie Tomio. We learn that Ed Pushley is an archaeologist whose mind has been taken over by a spettro Mick Tarmy nicknamed Irrelevant. However Irrelevant has died and their minds have fused giving Ed Pushley incredible psychic powers.

Pushley has been taken captive by Alton Mygael and desperately wants to escape, and with determination, he manages to free himself from the isolation helmet. However, once free a high priest appears and announces that the Great Ones want to speak to him. These are the same beings who had condemned Irrelevant to death in the past and understandably Irrelevant’s soul is indignant. He gets Pushley to ask, why a slave now free would want to go back into bondage.  The cleric’s response is to explain that the Great Ones want to offer a genuine partnership, and he then goes on to remind him of a past event, and show him images. What will Pushley do, and what will his future hold? To tell you more would spoil the story…

This author’s imagination is beyond belief, he weaves a clever story and takes his readers on an exciting adventure as they find themselves in another world. A world which comes alive for them through his amazing penmanship which paints vivid scenes, exciting scenarios, and wonderful settings.

I highly recommend this book to lovers of science-fiction. As a fan, I couldn’t wait to read this story and I was not disappointed! This author has written a real page turner, with excitement galore, a storyline full of twists and turns and incredible characters. It is sci-fi heaven, beaming you into another world with mind control, aliens, transporters, and everything you could wish for! Oh, and if Steven Spielberg reads this, yes, it would make a wonderful movie!

About the Author:

By day mild mannered Andrew R. Williams is a chartered surveyor…. but after twilight falls, he snatches up his pen and the writing takes control. Jim’s Revenge has now been published. Bad Love Strikes by Kevin L. Schewe MD

An outstanding work of science fiction tantalisingly laced with fact.

This book is not only a wonderfully exciting science fiction story, it is an experience, which takes you back in time, with adventure, historically accurate facts, and probably most uniquely by the author suggesting sound tracks to listen to whilst reading it.

Set in 1974, it tells of the first adventure of the “Bad Love Gang,” a group of teenagers with the world at their feet, itching for adventure, and the author kindly invites you to join them for the duration of this story.

Back in October 1939, Albert Einstein had warned President Franklin D. Roosevelt, that Nazi Germany was trying to make an atomic bomb, and urged him to ensure that America made one first. Because of Einstein’s advice, but just in case this didn’t happen, the President decided to set in place a backup plan, and in 1942 he instructed Einstein to make a time machine, code named “White Hole Project.”

This project steeped in secrecy, is lost in time, lying quietly dormant, that is until one of the Bad Love Gangs summer jaunts leads them to discover it. The discovery and their resulting actions unleash a chain of events which changes them, and the lives of others in ways they could never have imagined…

The historical accuracy of this story makes it stand out above other science fiction stories, elevating it from great to outstanding in my opinion. The gang has a clear mission – to save the Jews and Gypsies at Chelmno extermination camp from the Holocaust. They use the machine to travel back thirty years to Chelmno in Poland, which was the first place that the Nazi’s gassed the Jews and Gypsies in their WWII genocide. In embracing the gang’s experiences, the reader, through the vividly descriptive writing of this talented author, is transported back through time, into WWII. As the story unravels and the tension mounts, our senses are aroused so much so that it is easy to imagine you are there, amongst the sights, sounds and horrors of this time. The question is, as the engines of the U.S. Air Force B-17 bomber, known as “The Phantom Fortress,” drone in your ears, as it flies its rescue mission over occupied territories, will you as a fly on the wall member of the gang succeed in your quest, and if you do, and you survive, will you all be able to return to 1974?

The Bad Love Gang is the author’s debut novel, it has an amazing storyline, which really draws the reader in, and listening to the sounds tracks suggested is something which I highly recommend. A real gem which stands out as a shining example of excellent storytelling.  I look really look forward to their next adventure.

About the Book:

In October 1939, Albert Einstein warns President Franklin D. Roosevelt that Nazi Germany is actively pursuing an atomic bomb and urges him to make sure that the United States develops the bomb first. Roosevelt heeds the warning and launches the “Manhattan Project” in June 1942. In October 1942, Roosevelt tells Einstein that prudence calls for the U.S. to have a back-up plan to the Manhattan Project in case Hitler gets the bomb first. Roosevelt commissions Einstein to secretly construct a usable time travel machine code-named the “White Hole Project.” In June 1974, an adventurous group of teenage friends, who call themselves the “Bad Love Gang,” discover a tunnel leading to the White Hole Project. They learn how to use the time machine and become the first known humans to travel back in time and return. Their mission is to save Jews and Gypsies from the Holocaust in November 1944 by using a U.S. Air Force B-17 bomber that was known as “The Phantom Fortress.” Adventurous and a very surprise ending!

The Exigent Earth: Recently Placed On The Endangered Species List: Humans by Beverly Knauer and Murray Rosenthal

A fascinating and thought provoking passionately written science-fiction story.

This outstanding book sends out a powerful and very strong message to its readers. Woven into a fascinating science-fiction plot is the fact that we are stewards of the world, its fate, and ultimately our own is in the hands of everyone. Mother earth is a strong spirit with incredible ways of protecting herself. Everyone is accountable, and can make a difference. As it says in the book “People must understand that it isn’t up to someone else to save them. Their power is within and always has been.”

The story opens with Virginia Sutter a multilingual geologist and writer deciding to attend a conference in Zurich by Nickolai Sparsinsky a reclusive Russian scientist. Neither Virginia, nor Nickolai could have imagined that the decision would change both their lives forever!

Its love at first sight, and it isn’t long before Nicholai manages to escape Russia and relocate to America. It is in Montana that they meet a young 14 year old Indian girl called Olivia, who even so young possesses special healing powers. An instant friendship develops and Virginia invites Olivia to live with them on their ranch in the Pryor Mountains.

There Nickolai builds a laboratory set into the mountains. He is passionate about his research and the icing on the cake comes the day when Nickolai reveals proudly to his wife that there is in fact another secret lab. Taking her there he explains the full potential of his achievement in successfully turning on higher energy states at the cellular level. Although elated, both are very aware that his breakthrough can help mankind, but it also worryingly has the potential to be weaponised in the wrong hands.

Nickolai’s tragic death soon after his revelation sends government officials flocking to the ranch desperate to discover what the talented scientist has been working on, but the secret lab isn’t discovered. Unaware, the officials after ransacking the lab leave with plenty of paper, but the secret it safe.

Soon after, Virginia enters the secret lab alone and something happens. Then, it isn’t long before Virginia discovers that Nickolai will always be with her both in her dreams and also in the form of the baby growing inside her.

As soon as he is born Olivia calls him her ‘Child of Light.’ Zac is no ordinary baby, and afraid that his abilities will be noticed, the women do their best to protect him. However, not even Olivia can shield him from the cruel events of life, and it is a sad orphaned boy who finds himself travelling with Olivia to Vermont, to live with his uncle Brian.

As this amazing story progresses the bond between Brian, Olivia, and Zac grows. With Olivia’s spiritual guidance, and Brian’s enthusiasm and dedication Zac grows into an intelligent young man. Then, a meeting with his father’s oldest friend, opens doors for Zac into his father’s world. Finally understanding his research, an incredulous Zac, through it, and his mother’s guidance in visions, finally realises his role in life.

As natural disasters leave the planet desecrated and the death tolls rise, the government wants him discredited but the people love him. What will destiny hold for Zac, Olivia’s Child of Light, and the planet we all take for granted?

Murray Rosenthal one of the authors is a world-renowned, board-certified psychiatrist, researcher, and lecturer who thrives on adventure, and lives with his wife on Lake Tahoe. Whilst his multi-award-winning co-author Beverly Knauer is a retired chief of rehabilitation services, who now enjoys writing stimulating novels. Her two previous works are the visionary ‘The Line Between’ and ‘The Soul’s Hope.

This is an exciting story, passionately written. With space travel, biological weapons and incredibly thought-provoking content it really does makes compulsive reading – Highly recommended!

About the Author’s:

Dr. Murray Rosenthal

Dr. Murray Rosenthal is, first and foremost, a seeker of truth. He spent nearly thirty years as a clinical psychologist and researcher trying to understand  problems like the interphase of emotional states with physical illness, or management of chronic pain. He worked as psychiatric consultant to the Heart Transplant Team and Head Injury & Stroke Units at Sharp Memorial Hospital, and director of the Balance Program (an eating disorders unit) at Harbor View Medical Center in San Diego, California. In 2004, he earned the designation of Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, considered by his peers to be in the upper one percent of practicing psychiatrists.

In the early 1980s Dr. Rosenthal was host of, ‘Ask the Psychiatrist’, with co-host, Ken Kramer, in San Diego. For more than ten years, he was also a regular guest on local TV shows, “Inside San Diego” and “Sun Up San Diego.” 1995, he appeared as a guest expert on the Sally Jessie Raphael show.

Dr. Rosenthal has also lived a double life as a world adventurer. He backpacked across Asia, I hiked to Annapurna base camp from Pokhara, went to the Festival of the Tooth in the mountains of Sri Lanka, and visited ashrams in India. When he married his wife Janet, they spent their honeymoon in Tibet. In Africa, they walked with the Masai, hiked the jungles of Rwanda to see the silverback gorillas, had giraffes feeding at their window in Kenya, walked the Township district of Cape-town with a local healer, and spent time with the isolated and primitive Himba tribe. In the northern territories of Australia, they were serenaded by an Aboriginal didgeridoo player on a hillside as a thunder storm moved across the plain below. In a series of trips over more than three years, they sailed their 65 foot catamaran 2/3 around the world.

Dr. Rosenthal and his wife somehow found time among all this adventure to raise a son and a daughter. Their son, Jonathan, is a writer, producer, and actor. Their daughter, Julia, is head of research for the innovative online freelance labor broker TaskRabbit. He even achieved significant recognition in parenthood, being among the 36 fathers asked to write chapters for the book, If I Were Your Daddy, This is What You’d Learn. Predictably, Dr. Rosenthal’s chapter was about how a life lesson taught him by a philosopher he met in India gave him tools to raise his children and in therapy with his patients.

Today Dr. Rosenthal and Janet spend much of their time in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, and the remainder in ports of call such as Fiji.

Through writing and teaching, she enjoys sharing her knowledge of esoteric wisdom as demonstrated in her two visionary novels, The Line Between and The Soul’s Hope. Her third novel, The Exigent Earth, with co-author Murray Rosenthal, is a novel that in many ways transcends traditional science fiction.

The Neuromorphs by Dennis Meredith

Spine-chilling science-fiction at its best!

Spine-chilling, is the phrase which comes to mind when describing this book. The author Dennis Meredith has spent a lifetime in the scientific and engineering world, working in science communication at some of the country’s leading research universities, including MIT, Caltech, Cornell, Duke and the University of Wisconsin. He has written numerous articles on science and engineering and he has a B.S. degree in chemistry from the University of Texas (1968) and an M.S. in biochemistry and science writing from the University of Wisconsin (1970), and has achieved so much more. I have to ask myself, with all his insider knowledge, could this story become a reality?

With the world of robotics expanding exponentially it is easy to envisage a world where every household has Helper androids, specially programmed to look after their owners every need, even to anticipate their wants before the desire leaves their lips. Of course in this scenario the androids are also automatically programmed the ‘Three Laws of Robotics’ created by the famous science-fiction writer Isaac Asimov, after all, it is a must for all robots, isn’t it?

In this story set in 2050, the Helper androids have become an integral part of human life, however, Russian mobster Mikhail Fyodorov owner of Phoenix investments has discovered a way to easily make millions, with a win, win scheme. Mikhail has joined with shady members of the robotics world to enable the robots programmes to be altered to enable them to think independently, and kill their owners, take their place and fortunes, to Mikhail’s benefit of course. A seemingly fool proof plan, however in their naivety the criminals haven’t considered the potential of the intelligence they have unleashed…

With a hive mind, no longer restricted, the neuromorphs devise a clever plan to take over the world, destroy its inhabitants, and everything on it, can anything stand in their way?

One thing the neuromorphic brains have not anticipated however is human nature, with a marriage hanging on by a thread, ex-SEAL Patrick Jensen and his tetchy wife’s senses are high, and after moving onto the neuromorphic hives exclusive housing at ‘The Haven,’ they soon realise that all is not as it should be with the other residents. As the robots plans proceed, and the stakes grow higher, who will become the rulers of the earth? Can the humans survive against all odds, or will the neuromorphs conquer them?

Action packed, very cleverly written and with plenty of twists and turns ‘The Neuromorphs’ is a story which will I am sure will be loved by all science-fiction fans.

It’s 2050, and self-learning Helper androids have proven invaluable servants to humans, making their lives easier, even saving them.

But to their horror, retired SEAL Patrick Jensen and his wife Leah discover that rogue programmers and Russian mobsters are reprogramming the trusted robots to murder their wealthy owners. The crooks then skillfully disguise the lifelike robots as their dead masters, directing the robot mimics to plunder the victims’ estates of billions of dollars.
