Authors: Check Out These 27 Fan Fiction Sites for 2019 by Scott Lorenz

“Ever thought about writing fan fiction? Many authors started out writing on fanfic sites.”

Anna Todd started writing fanfiction on her phone, published chapters to Wattpad, then after garnering 1 million+ views she was pursued by numerous literary agents. Fast forward five years, her story AFTER is a Simon & Schuster NY Times bestseller and Ann Todd is making millions.

Amanda Hocking started out writing fan fiction and she was signed to a multimillion-dollar book deal.  Erika Leonard, aka E.L. James discovered Fan Fiction in August 2009. Taking a stab at fan fiction under the pen name Snowqueens Icedragon has certainly served James well. The fan fiction morphed into the Fifty Shades of Grey series and movies which as of December 2018 give her a whopping $150,000,000 net worth.

The authors of the original properties also get royalties.

Bonus:   http://www.archiveofourown.com. It’s a growing fanfiction archive that’s almost as big as www.fanfiction.net and www.deviantart.com right now.

The Bottom Line:  I encourage you to post on fan fiction sites and take your writing to the next level. Reach out to new readers, get feedback from others and fine-tune your craft. You never know, it might be the start of something big!

One Mother’s Journey: Creating My Family through In Vitro Fertilization by Jennifer Prudenti

For most of us women having a baby is something we naturally want, and assume it will just happen, sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t.

In this frank and detailed book the author, Jennifer Prudenti, with timely insertions from her husband Marty, take us on their quest to be parents. Throughout, they lay bare their thoughts and emotions for us to read, in the hope that it will give others guidance and that it will help to full in some of the questions which others are wondering about, or may have forgotten to ask.

Jennifer’s story starts very openly as she explains how, as the daughter of a loving mother, all she wanted was a daddy, and how, like many before and since, she turned to boys to get the attention she craved from males. This yearning, and the consequences of it took her health and body down a tragic route which eventually led her to need In Vitro Fertilization, or as it is commonly known IVF.

Happily married, all Jennifer and her husband Marty wanted was a family, however, this was not to be – well not easily, as you will read. The path they took was a hard one, IVF. Jennifer explains in detail the various procedure, and tests which she endured, and the life she led dancing to the rhythm of her body clock, and the routines which had to be followed. The unfortunate disappointments, the emotional rollercoasters, and everything being swept aside by Jennifer’s strong feelings that she would be incomplete as a woman, and a wife, without being a mother, despite Marty’s protestations of the opposite.

Along with following traditional guidelines, she found herself trying alternative medicines and remedies. They changed clinics and doctors, done whatever they could until, finally she was carrying her babies.

For many, from then onwards is a natural path, set in stone, but for others (myself included), this is just the beginning of months of fears and worries. Unless you have experienced it no-one can understand the feelings you go through just to get to the magical 28 weeks when baby is ‘viable’, however the author does a very good job, as it certainly brought back memories for me.

As the title suggests this story does have a happy ending, but then as they say in films, this is only the beginning of Jennifer and Marty’s life as parents. I am a true believer that no-one can prepare you for parenthood, of course, the love you feel when you see your baby or babies for the first time, but also the emotional toll, sleepless nights, worries when they don’t sleep, the list is endless. As parents all we can do is our best, and of course hindsight is a wonderful thing.

This story is one which needed telling, not only because Jennifer and her husband thought so, but also to give hope, information, courage and the strength not to give up to the thousands of couples out there who strive to have a family of their own, whatever it takes….

About the Author: Jennifer Prudenti is a mother of two beautiful kids, Sophia and Michael. She lives in Albertson, New York, with her husband, Marty, their children, and the family cats, Smudgie and Sabrina. She is a mother, daughter, wife, friend, coworker. She is just like you, and her story could be anyone’s. She is a marketing professional who has worked in the music business, publishing, and television, and writing is her passion..

About the Book:  What if you thought you had it all figured out, and then just like that, nothing was as it seems? This is a story of determination, perseverance, and faith. This is a story about making your dream come true, despite the odds. This is my story.

Dr. Fred’s Healthcare Rescue: The Real Solution to Healthcare by Dr Fred F. Hollingsworth

4110TamegtL__AA160_

This is a very interesting and well researched book, in which the author considers the reasons and causes of the high cost of healthcare, and examines how to overcome this. He also talks about the lack of fair competition caused by repressed freedom, giving some very interesting examples.

The author points out that healthcare could be provided much more effectively and cheaper if the authorities took advantage of the many little known therapies and treatments available instead of always opting for more expensive drugs and surgery. In chapter six he looks at the growing move towards alternative health care, complimentary, and orthomolecular medicines and how the importance of taking responsibility for your own health. Then in the next chapter he provides the reader with many examples of the hundreds of therapies, and treatments, which are available.

Chapter four discusses some of the amazing advances which have been made, including the care of premature babies which affected me 29 years ago when I had my second child, a daughter at 26 weeks weighing .652 of a kilo. Now thankfully she is a competent health care professional. However it also points out that there have been failures along the way as well. It should be noted that the author does point out at the beginning of the book that he is not a licenced physician and the book is for information purposes only.

I found chapter five very interesting since it dispels twenty-seven commonly taught and accepted beliefs such as the need for prescription drugs as the major basis for maintaining good health, egg consumption, whether margarine is better for you than butter, and whether the only solution to knee, hip, and other joint problems is replacement surgery. More than one of these fallacies took me by surprise.

The author, Dr. Fred Hollingsworth, was born in southwest Colorado His life was profoundly influenced by his mother Gertrude, and grandmother, Anna Arkell. Anna had been taught by a Susan Anderson MD and the lifesaving lessons she learnt were passed on to him through her daughter Gertrude, (Fred’s mother). In the first chapter of his mother’s book Iodine Vision which was self-published in 1995, she tells of a profound experience which was to change her life totally, and also her sons, and ultimately lead to the writing of this fascinating book.

About the Book: If Not ObamaCare,Then what? Critics of ObamaCare (The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act) have not been united in proposing a suitable alternative. The author, Dr. Fred F. Hollingsworth, has the solution. His plan is presented in Chapter 10 of his book which is reviewed below. This plan will lower costs considerably while greatly increasing the quality of healthcare. Very powerful national and international financial interests have controlled healthcare for several decades. Their motive is mainly profit. Very little money is made by getting people well and keeping them well. Much money is made by keeping people sick but alive. The term “healthcare” is not actually correct. It should be called “sickness care”. Any health product or therapy, no matter how effective, is thus rejected if it is not profitable. Doctors, who attempt to use any unapproved lifesaving treatments to heal patients, face prosecution, the loss of their licenses, jail, financial bankruptcy, the loss of their health, and sometimes their actual physical safety. The above noted financial powers have long controlled the media and have built a gigantic propaganda machine to indoctrinate the public continuously to believe that various lifesaving products and therapies, are in fact fraudulent and constitute quackery. The public is, instead, led strongly but erroneously to believe that good health depends substantially upon the liberal use of expensive prescription drugs and surgeries. Furthermore the public is led to believe many untrue beliefs which are damaging to health.

A Review by Dr. Morton Walker 9-7-2012 Dr. Fred blows the lid off the health care scandal–the crime of the century with far more victims (believe it or not) than resulted from the terrible Nazi Holocaust. Tens of millions of people have watched precious dear loved ones suffer pain and ill health for decades ultimately dying long before reaching old age. Meanwhile many lifesaving healing therapies and products have been suppressed. A few examples include: Infections can be eliminated inexpensively and effectively without the use of antibiotics. Cardiovascular health can usually be restored without dangerous and expensive surgery. Dozens of effective inexpensive cancer cures are known. Type 1 (juvenile onset ) Diabetes M. can be overcome without insulin. Alzheimer’s disease can even be reversed inexpensively. Furthermore, Dr. Fred exposes several popular false beliefs ,concerning health and nutrition, which have contributed to people’s poor health and early death. Learn who is responsible for this outrageous and intolerable situation and how tyranny has been used to repress freedom and prevent these inexpensive and unprofitable lifesaving treatments from being used by mainstream medicine. Become aware of how government leaders attempt to address these problems while they appear not to know that government itself is the cause. Armed with the health and political information in this book, the reader should gain the opportunity to live a longer and more productive life–free of pain and illness while spending little for healthcare–and, thus, also help to prevent countless numbers of devastating government and private bankrupties. All of this and much more is explained in this 340 page easy-to-read must read book which presents a plan for far more effective healthcare at much less cost.

It is available at WWW.Createspace.com/3618670 at $18.95 plus shipping. Reorders are $12.95.and Amazon in paperback format http://www.amazon.com/Dr-Freds-Healthcare-Rescue-Solution/dp/1463539053/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1457971635&sr=8-1&keywords=dr+freds+healthcare

Unemployable! by David Thomas Roberts

image002

I was drawn to this book because of its title ‘Unemployable!’ I just love the title, as it was exactly what my now husband classified me as 10 years before we married when I was a self-employed mum working in his garden – and he was right I could never be employed by anyone else. I love the freedom too much!

I agree with everything that the author David Thomas Roberts has written. This book is absolutely packed with good advice. If you have the thirst to be your own boss then this is the book for you! It is practical, informative, down to earth and yet at the same time so inspirational.

This is not however a pie in the sky, opt out and follow your dream book, it is built on solid foundations and years of dedication to his businesses. The authors has experience both as a very successful man who made it (more than once), and, just as importantly as someone who looking back can see where, and why his businesses failed. These experiences have given him a real insight into what it REALLY takes to succeed.

Also, he doesn’t glaze over the not so pleasant parts like, finance, how important it is to be truthful to yourself as to whether you really are making money, relationships, partners and the tricky one of what to do when a family member wants to become part of your business.

David Thomas Roberts freely imparts his vast knowledge and anyone considering making themselves ‘unemployable’ would greatly benefit from taking heed his advice. Whether it is discovering if this sort of life and responsibilities are really right for you, or learning from his experiences with the tax man.

At one point in the book he reminisces about asking his respected father what he would have liked to do if he could have, and why he didn’t. Funnily enough, I asked the exact same question of my own father when he had ‘retired’ and started his own business, and got the exact same answer!

I cannot recommend this book highly enough, and am sure everyone who reads it will learn so much from its contents.

About the Author: David ThomasRoberts, known as the “Renegade Capitalist®”, is the founder and CEOof Teligistics, and is a bestselling author, public speaker and serialentrepreneur who, at the age of twenty-one, left the world of being employed bysomeone else for the rest of his life and became “UNEMPLOYABLE!” Robertsshares the lessons he’s learned from more than thirty-five years as anentrepreneur, the unconventional strategies he has deployed, and providesspecific how-to advice on starting a business and the secrets of beingsuccessfully independent – and sustaining it for the rest of your life.

About the Book: Roberts makes the case that this may be the greatest time in history to start a business! Using Roberts’ strategies and principles in this book, learn how to become “UNEMPLOYABLE!” your entire life! Most of us are taught to get a good education and a good job. The idea that we should be content to have someone else dictate our daily commute, our income, schedules and vacations is the accepted norm. To some, the idea of life in a cubicle eight hours a day is akin to torture! What does it really take for someone to jump off the employment treadmill and participate in the free enterprise system, unencumbered by traditionally accepted myths?

‘Unemployable’ is available from Amazon in Kindle http://www.amazon.com/Unemployable-David-Thomas-Roberts-ebook/dp/B01AMJEQE4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1457258039&sr=8-1&keywords=unemployable

You Don’t Die – You Just Change Channels! by Chuck Swartwout

CoverYouDontDie1-16

I just loved this book, it is written in such a friendly chatty manner that it draws you in straight away. When I read in the introduction this 94 years young author saying “When I tell you that I am 94 years old, you may think that I’m either nuts or a dreamer to think that I can accomplish all that at an age where some people don’t want to commit themselves to buying green bananas.” I just knew it was going to be interesting.

Like most people, as a young person, Chuck Swartwout never considered growing old, however, years later after the loss of his much loved wife of 54 years, Gretchen, he found himself re-evaluating his life, questioning if his good luck at various times, was luck and not something else, and this fuelled his fascination in the afterlife. Thus began his quest for knowledge.

He has had an incredibly interesting life and career, and because of this, and his fascination in so many different things, the world we live in, the spirit world, religion, space, and everything in between, he decided to write this book. However, this is no ordinary book, the author doesn’t tell you what to do, how to think, and what is right. No, this is a ‘feedback book’ written to provide you with information, varied and unbiased, on space, the universe, the spirit world, mediums, religion, near death experiences, after death communication, the future, God, and so much more. Chuck Swartwout wants to hear from you when you have read it, he cares what you think. He wants to hear your thoughts on the subjects he has brought up. He personally believes there is an afterlife, but he wants to hear what you think about the subject. Why, because he plans to write at least one more book and wants more information, this man has a real thirst for knowledge, one I have never seen paralleled.

I am interested in near death experiences, after death communication and the spirit world, and my husband has a deep love of science and space, all through this book, I found myself reading passages out to him, I couldn’t help myself.

Chuck Swartwout strongly believes that we must end all wars and that communication is the key. Included in the books is a lovely letter from one of his granddaughters who is in the Peace Corp in Peru, in which she clearly illustrates how the differences portrayed in the various parts of the world, be it everyday tasks, or pleasures, such as dancing, are not different, they are just other way of doing the same thing. Communication is key, whether in this world or the next.

The author believes that this is so important that not only does he want to write more books, he is also looking for billionaire sponsors for a new project he is proposing. This project is about communication with the spirit world, and has the tentative name Spirit Lab. You can read more in Appendix 1.

The front cover picture is a copy of an original watercolour by his beloved wife of 54 years Gretchen, whom he firmly believes he will be reunited with in the future. Reading this book has opened my eyes to many things and taught me so much, I hope his belief that they will be reunited is true and look forward to reading the sequel.

About the Book: When Gretchen Swartwout died suddenly in 2006, Her husband of 54 years, Chuck, was not quite ready to call it quits. He combined his deep Christian faith with his decades of experience as an engineer and creative problem solver to produce this “common sense” analytical exploration of the idea of heaven and a life a er death. From interpreting scripture to testing the work of “mediums,” this book explores the afterlife in a way it’s never been done before.

Biff the Useless Mention: Book IV of the Sell the Pig trilogy by Tottie Limejuice

61kxeR7mJzL__SX373_BO1,204,203,200_

Those of us who are avid fans of Tottie Limejuice have enjoyed following her adventures through the Sell the Pig series. We have watch, fly on the wall like, as she left her native England and moved to the Auvergne department in the central region of France, with her alcoholic brother, and their elderly mother suffering from dementia. Then, after her mother’s death she decided to buy the ‘grottage’ and moved there. She is a very open author and gives the reader, whether they are living in France themselves, or just enjoying a good read, lots of information about the French people, customs, idiosyncrasies’ etc.

Now, with the grottage not finished, but coming along nicely, she has decided to tell her readers more about her lovely area and also the neighbouring Rhône-Alpes region. In this the fourth book in the trilogy (she explains that in the book too) she takes us on camping trips, mini breaks, and days out, nearly always accompanied by her Border Collies.

There are wonderful days out described in detail, and I have to say personally a big thank you for her descriptions of the many adventures she has had with her friend Alex. Alex is in a wheelchair a lot of the time and with a wheelchair bound husband myself, it was very interesting to hear about the facilities, or not, at the places they visited especially at the Puy de Dôme.

For those of us who have not yet visited this side of France it makes us yearn to go there and see the wonderful sights she describes.

It is obvious that the author has found her forever home, as she has even become a French national. My father has always said that you cannot live on a view, that may be true, however it must be amazing to look out of your window and be able to see the magnificent Puy de Dôme and some of the volcanic chain (chaîne des Puys).

I was given a copy of this book for an unbiased review thoroughly enjoyed it.

The back of this book allows her readers to sample snippets of her other books, some, like the Ted Darling Detective series totally different from this series.

About the Author: Retired journalist, freelance copywriter and copy editor Lesley Tither writes under various pen names for different genres. Already well known for travel memoirs as Tottie Limejuice, Lesley also writes crime fiction under the name L. M. Krier.

“Sell the Pig” is the first in a series of travel memoirs describing how Lesley, writing as Tottie Limejuice, decided to make the move from the UK to France to start a new life, taking with her an 89-year-old mother suffering from vascular dementia. The story continues in two further books, ‘Is That Billinge Lump?’ and ‘Mother, Was It Worth It?’
Book IV in the series, ‘Biff the Useless Mention’, is scheduled for release in early 2016.

Lesley’s first crime thriller, writing as L M Krier, ‘Baby’s Got Blue Eyes’, was published in February 2015, followed by ‘Two Little Boys’ in June 2015. Book III in the DI Ted Darling series, ‘When I’m Old and Grey’ is scheduled for release in October 2015, followed by a fourth in the series early in 2016.

Lesley also writes under the collective pen name of Jilli Lime-Holt, together with authors Jill Pennington and Janet Holt. Their first joint book, Take Three Birds, was published in December 2014.

Lesley is a former journalist, working as both a criminal court and coroner’s court reporter. She also worked as a case tracker for the Crown Prosecution Service, and for a firm investigating irregularities in offshore finance. Her other jobs have included owning and running a holiday riding centre and acting as a ‘charity mugger’, lying in wait to sign up shoppers for a wildlife charity.

Lesley’s interests centre around nature and wildlife and encompass dogs, wild camping and organic gardening. She lives in the Auvergne region of Central France and holds dual French/British nationality. Her current dogs are two rescued border collies.

Want to chat with Lesley? You’ll find a Tottie Limejuice Chat Group on Facebook, with lots of photos of the Auvergne.

About the Book: In March 2007, Tottie left Britain to follow the dream of a new life in France for herself, her elderly mother and her damaged brother. Has the dream turned to a nightmare or is Tottie still happily living the quiet life in her little ‘grottage’ in the Auvergne region of central France?
Come with Tottie now as she takes you on Tottie’s Tours of the Auvergne. Enjoy the familiar ironic humour and keen eye for detail that will bring the landscape and the people to life for you. Be prepared to shed a tear as you say goodbye to some familiar characters. And find out how Tottie took to a life of crime once she retired from her work as a freelance copywriter.
‘Biff the Useless Mention’ is the fourth and concluding part of what started out as a trilogy, with ‘Sell the Pig’, ‘Is That Billinge Lump?’ and ‘Mother Was It Worth It?’. Don’t miss this concluding part of the ‘Sell the Pig’ series.
‘Mother, mother, it’s a bugger, sell the pig and buy me out’.

This is definitely the most powerful, inspiring and amazing poetry book I have ever read.

In Winter’s Mystery: Time To Go Within, the author, Patricia Blumhagen writes in a very powerful yet open way. I loved the title, since, loving nature myself I could immediately connect to the fact that in winter everything is exposed in its raw detail. Gone are the flowers which distract, the leaves which hide, in winter there is only what is…

The author has a lovely way of exploring the frailties and strengths of humanity. Her poetry is simply beautiful, looking at the myriad of emotions which make us who we are, our hopes, fears, dreams etc., opening them up for us in an amazing way and exposing the nucleus for us to consider.
That she is an Interfaith Minister is not really surprising, she has a wonderful way with words and I loved the strength of belief which is shown in the poem ‘Calling.’

There are many inspirational poems and one, which I loved was The Vessel which tells of being broken, yet still there lies the possibility of healing.

In this busy world there are many people who will criticise you, but sometimes you can be your strongest critic and this can cause a lot of emotional pain, and lead to self-destruction; the poem the ‘Inner Critic’ inspires you to let go of these thoughts.

‘I Let Go’ is a short, yet very powerful poem about coming to terms with loss which is just simply beautiful.

However, I have to say that my favourite is Open the Door’ which is about facing your demons and gaining inner peace, something, many people lack the strength to do.

Simply, this book is a joy to read and to own, I know that I shall pick it up many times from now on, whether to gain inspiration, search for answers, or just to enjoy the wonderful words within.

About the Author: Patricia is an Interfaith Minister, Registered Nurse, and Certified Nutritional Consultant, as well as a grower of organic herbs. As an Interfaith Minister and Spiritual Coach, her concern is finding the best approach to assist clients in connecting with their souls and in birthing their hidden potentials. She works with healing the trauma of loss. Many have been touched and healed by reading her book. She also offers transforming rituals for celebrating personal growth. For twenty-one years she lived and serviced as a nun in a Catholic Community, out growing the conditioning she found herself outside of the religious organization, and, began her search to release the old and reclaim her authentic self.

Winter’s Mystery-Time To Go Within:Spiritual Journeying is her poetic memoir. Here, she tells
her story from loss to freedom, and finding purpose and meaning in writing. In her poetic memoir
she shows how the emotional pain was the medicine for her healing towards wholeness.
Her book is the spiritual journey within for honoring the darkness and moving towards new beginnings.

Mini Farming: Sustainability with A Backyard Farm (Slef sufficiency, Sustainable farming, self sufficiency living Book 1) by Rodger Kinnard

51+OzhHl+QL__AA160_

We actually have a smallholding, and once you have made the jump to living this sort of life, have an active vegetable patch, and a few animals, you never look back!

It starts quite sensibly by looking at backyard farming, what it entails, how much room you will need, and how much you actually have. The author then goes into what you would like to do, and, if you live in a built up area, what you might have to check on before you begin.

All types and sizes of gardens are discussed, from large plots to patio and vertical planting, there’s something in it for everyone. It then goes on in this section to discuss some of the crops, both vegetable and fruit, that you may wish to grow, and their storage. Garden maintenance and pests are also brought up, before we move to the next section, farm animals.

Animals and birds add a whole new dimension to your project, and naturally the first ones which are mentioned are the ever popular chickens, quail, ducks and geese. The author then goes on to goats, sheep, and pigs.

All this produce has to be preserved, for use out of season and this is covered too.

At the end there is a sample year in the life of a mini farmer to give a taste of how the seasons go, for those who have no experience.
Overall a very interesting and informative guide which broadly covers a wide range of farming options.

About the Book: Sustaining your family the healthy way: Organic farming in a small space!

In today’s economy, there are ways not only to save money, but to create healthy eating choices, by using whatever space you have available to grow your own food. Organic gardening is booming. Even with a backyard, you can prepare, plant, nurture and harvest a natural garden which will produce organic vegetables and fruit; so much better than buying from the store! The book explores egg and meat sources too, and offers suggestions to use vertical as well as horizontal gardens in the process.
With helpful instructions, plans and guidance for obtaining permits, building coops, and other structures, the book will help you also deal with garden enemies such as grubs, insects, and disease.

Creating a sustainable life for your family can be a pleasure for all of the family. These gardening ideas not only help you to create your own mini-farm, but can be fun for all the family too! Activity levels increase and you’ll experience a deeper interaction with nature, as well as knowing the source of your own food! The results just speak for themselves.

I have tried to make this book as detailed as possible to help you get started with organic life style. Here is some of what you will learn inside the book:

* The planning stages in order to start a Mini Farm
* What are different types of Gardens that you can start setting up?
* Maintaining your garden and pest control measures
* Sourcing of eggs and white meat; different options explained
* Self-preservations and the a year in life
Everything else you would need to know before starting your Mini Farm

Overall experience of growing your own organic food is wonderful not only just for your health but also for your brain. You wouldn’t need your gym membership if you start your farm workout. You can trust me on that.

“Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.” – Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Help! I’m a Kitty Mom: How to Raise an Orphaned Kitten (The Mewtopia Diaries Book 1) by Linda Deane

51Tx9UtAJUL__AA160_

Last year we rescued three kittens. Ours were large enough to fend for themselves, however, when I saw this book I knew I had to get it, just in case…

This book is amazing. I have never had occasion to bring up new born kittens, but if I ever do I shall be so pleased that I downloaded this book as it contains a wealth of information.

The author has vast experience of raising kittens from a very young age, and the whole book is a full of important information on the subject. What’s more the author is happy to offer advice and help if needed.

From the start, she looks into the options available if you find, or are bought a litter in a honest way, discusses the realities of the situation, the time and attention which is involved, and of course the tremendous rewards which can be gained.

A must have book for anyone who cares for animals, full of practical advice.

About the Author: Linda Deane is an avid cat fan. She currently shares her home with eighteen cats, two dogs, a corn snake, her husband and two teen daughters. She is an active member of the online animal rescue and rehome community, taking in abandoned cats and kittens as a foster “parent” until good homes can be found for them.
Linda lives in South Africa. She has a degree in Zoology and Botany and has always loved animals and nature. Her close relationship with cats has taught her much about their ways and her love for them has inspired her writing. She is never short of a “mewse” or two, or three, or four……

About the Book: The tiny scrap of life in the palm of your hand raises its head unsteadily. Delicate whiskers twitch as it sniffs the air and appeals to you with a weak cry. Instinctively it knows the tables have turned. This kitten is one of the lucky ones. Fate has chosen you and placed it in your compassionate, capable hands. What do you do now? This booklet is a comprehensive, practical guide on how to raise an orphaned kitten. Drawn from their years of experience as volunteers fostering and raising orphaned, abused and abandoned cats and kittens, Linda Deane and family share their knowledge in this series of indispensible guides. They call their home Mewtopia, a haven for needy cats and kittens. Look out for the next volume in The Mewtopia Diaries – Goodbye Gabby, An Understanding of FIP – available in October 2015.

An Apartment in Paris by Caroline Blane

51-6h+rW9hL__AA160_What a gem!

Whether you have ever dreamed of owning a little pied-a-terre, are actually seriously considering it, or just love books about France and being the fly on the wall of other peoples adventures, this book cannot fail to entertain and inform you!

When college professors Caroline and her husband Andrew decide to take a six month sabbatical from their work at a university in America and buy an apartment in Paris, not only do they have themselves to think about, but also settling their five year old son Adrian into school.

Renting an apartment they settle their young son in, and with the resilience of youth, he embraces his new life and settles into his school well, and then the hunt for the perfect apartment begins.

I am an English expat living in France, and have been to Paris quite a few times, however, living within commuting distance of the capital, whilst reading this, I just wanted to get into the car and explore the famous, and more hidden treasures this beautiful city has to offer some more. Engrossed in the book I can imagine sitting in the little café’s dotted throughout the city, and find myself practically smelling the delicious coffee served within. The wonderful food and culture of France is so well described that I found myself dying to try the delicious dishes, gateaux and cheeses which are so beautifully described by the author.

However, whilst soaking in the atmosphere and discovering, or in the case of myself rekindling my love of this wonderful city, I found myself absorbing the enormous amount of practical information and phrases which have been included in this book. For those who need it, there is also a very useful guide to the procedures and terms used everywhere in France when buying a house, and information essential for a prospective buyer.

Throughout the book, the author keeps the reader enthralled by their family’s adventures, whether they are just carrying out everyday tasks, or seeing the city’s sights and districts. This entertaining book is also contains many interesting historical facts about the places they visit, both in Paris and on their breaks to other parts of France.

This is a wonderful mixture of travelogue and ‘how to’ which I thoroughly enjoyed and would not hesitate to recommend.
